Program Evaluation Goal-Examine the following areas:
How well is the AZ Noyce MaTh Scholars Program preparing undergraduate mathematics majors to teach mathematics at the secondary level? Document outcomes from the Noyce activities (e.g., Summer Algebra Academy, afterschool programs, and tutoring opportunities) with regards to working with diverse student populations. 10
Program Evaluation Methods:
Ask you for thoughts and opinions about your experience in the Noyce activities through pre- and post-surveys. Ask you to participate in focus groups with the other Noyce Interns and Scholars to reflect on your developing skills in teaching. Ask you to share with us how your attitude towards teaching mathematics in schools with diverse student populations might have changed using a year-end survey. After-school Math Club at Roskruge
NOYCE Interns will co-design and facilitate an after- school mathematics club for students in grades 6, 7, and 8. Goals: for Interns to have an opportunity to develop their skills at creating rich mathematical activities; be in a safe environment to test these activities and learn from each other; learn about students’ mathematical thinking; and learn about developing activities that are linguistically and culturally relevant. 24
Logistics and Team The after-school meets every Monday and Tuesday from 3:45-5:30pm at Roskruge bilingual school (the actual program with the students is from 4 to 5pm) Planning meeting every week, on Fridays from 4 to 5:30pm Interns for Fall 2016: Ariel Carr, Jessy Forelli, Stephanie Lane, and Marvin Portillo Teacher: Arnulfo Velasquez (7th grade mathematics teacher at Roskruge) Coordinator and Mentor: Nishaan Ponnuru, first year graduate student Faculty Mentor: Marta Civil Instagram: uateachmath Facebook: Robert Noyce National Science Foundation Award #

About the Mathematical Content
Proportional Reasoning Algebraic Thinking Activities of varying challenge level to address the different grades represented Instagram: uateachmath Facebook: Robert Noyce National Science Foundation Award #
26
Main Characteristics Providing hands-on activities that build on students’ interest and lived experiences. Making connections to out-of-school/community experiences. Promoting use of Spanish, given the bilingual nature of the school. Engaging students in mathematical argumentation. Thereby bridging the gap between school and community.
