4. Foundation High School Plan
The purpose of the FHSP graduation plan is to….
Instill flexibility in public education by enabling students to either pursue a traditional path into colleges and universities or move directly into the workforce (ex. Welding, Cosmetology certifications).
An Endorsement is similar to a college major. Completion of an Endorsement will allow students to graduate from high school with knowledge and/or experience in the college major they wish to pursue.
Students can earn an endorsement in one of the following areas:
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)
Business and Industry
Public Services
Arts and Humanities
Multidisciplinary Studies
Foundation High School Plan

5. What is an Endorsement?
Example:
A student interested in becoming a welder will earn a “Business and Industry” endorsement and complete the following sequence of courses:
9th Grade:
Business Information Management
10th Grade:
Ag Mechanics and Metal Technologies
11th Grade: Welding I
12th Grade: Welding II
Example: A student interested in becoming a nurse will earn a “Public Service” endorsement and complete the following sequence of courses: 9th Grade: Business Information Management 10th Grade: Child Development 11th Grade: Anatomy and Physiology 12th Grade: Certified Nursing Asst

6. How will colleges view the new graduation requirements?
With the Class of 2018 being the first class to graduate on the
Foundation High School Program, it is VERY important for parents
and students to check the specific admission requirements for any
college a student may be interested in attending.

Advanced Placement (AP)
Students may receive college credit only if they take the AP exam and score a 3 or higher on the exam. AP courses and exams do not qualify as dual credit. There is a fee ($90 average cost) to take a AP exam for college credit. Check the AP credit policy at the college of choice to confirm what score is required in order to award credit.
Students may receive college credit if they pass the course with a college grade of a “C”.

 Description
The AP Program allows students to take college-level courses and ex­ams while in high school. A strong score on the culminating exam may result in college credit or placement.
Dual Credit allows high school students to earn both high school and college credit . In order to earn college credit, the course must be passed with a C or higher.
 Credit
College credit may be awarded depending on the student’s score on the AP examination. Individ­ual colleges and universities, not the College Board or the AP Program, determine course credit and placement.
High school and college credit through Lone Star College (LSC) is awarded when the student passes the course.
 College/ University Acceptance
Accepted at thousands of universities around the world. Typically requires a score of 3 or higher on the AP exam. Students should check with their chosen universities to see if AP credit may be awarded.
Accepted at public (and some private) colleges and universities in Texas as well as many outside of Texas. Requires semester average of C or better for transferability. Students should check with their chosen universities to see if Dual credit may be awarded.

Open to any high school student.
Must meet college readiness standard scores on the Accuplacer, or earn exemptions with SAT, ACT, or STAAR scores.

11. English College Readiness
Atascocita High School will offer English and Math College Readiness courses that prepares your child for college level English (ENGL 1301) and College Algebra (MATH 1314)
College Readiness Classes will be offered in the fall semester
These classes will have no college tuition or fees
If a student completes the course and is prepared to enroll in college-level courses for the spring semester, the student must register for the class through the Dual Credit Liaison, Mrs. Ruth Diaz and pay the required fees for any college level work.

14. Four Year Plan / Course Selections
Log on to
Review the classes selected for next year
Make any necessary changes to course selection
Initial course requests will be uploaded from Bridges course selections.
All changes thereafter will be made via course request verifications through the counselor.
Graduation Plans (Endorsements) may not be changed in Bridges. You must consult with your counselor prior to any endorsement change. Changing your endorsement without your counselor’s approval may result in a delay in graduation.

16. Important Algebra Requirement
Successful completion of Algebra 1 is necessary before enrolling in any other math course. Any student who has not successfully completed Algebra 1 and therefore unable to enroll in a sequenced math course the following year will put themselves in danger of not being able to meet graduation requirements on time.

Students on the Foundation High School Program are required to successfully complete English 1, English 2, and English 3 before enrolling in the fourth English course required for graduation. 24. Athletes…Don’t Forget…
You will need to complete the necessary NCAA Clearinghouse forms!
Student-athletes must be certified by the NCAA Clearinghouse
before receiving an athletics scholarship, practicing and
competing at a division I or II institution.
The class of 2017 and thereafter will be required to complete at least 10 core courses by the end of their junior year.

25. Important Information
Counselors will be working with Juniors to complete their course selections on January 18th and 19th.
Students will have until February 10th to make changes in Bridges.
Confirmation of Course Selections for the school year will be given to students in March/April

Bridges will be closed on February 10th. Be sure to check your child’s four year plan / course selections before it is submitted to their counselor on that date.
