3 Citing Fitzgerald was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1895 (Miller 34). Scott was an only child and was considered spoiled. In addition, his mother came from a wealthy family, but Scott’s family never had much money. Consequently, Scott’s mother had to borrow money from her parents to send her son to college (Lerner 23-26). She always felt that “Scott was exceptionally bright, a genius” (Burns 46). *If the entire paragraph comes from the same source, you can wait until the end to cite it.

Write out numbers under 100. Don’t use you. Use italics…not underlining. Write in present literary tense. Eliminate short, choppy sentences. Use transitions. Introduce and conclude each paragraph. Support what you say. Proofread.

Don’t use the phrase “In my paper I will…” or “This paper will discuss…” PARAPHRASE – Put everything in your own words unless it is a quote. Only use two or three quotes. CITE EVERYTHING except general information in the introduction or conclusion…(author p#). CITE FITZGERALD. EACH TREND MUST BE RELATED TO THE NOVEL. Type the rough draft.

8 Typing Before you begin typing, create your header with your last name and page numbers. Click “insert” and then “page number.” Select “top of page” and select “plain number 3.” Type your last name (against the page number) and a space. Double click the header tab. At the top middle screen, choose “no spacing.” Change the font to “Times New Roman” and size 12. Next, hit control 2 to make everything double-spaced. Begin typing your heading.
