Topic: Weather Area: Humanities Class: Orange Date: Spring 2017 Activities Activities Week 1 Frost Jack frost by Kazuno Kohara, Jack Frost in the Garden Brenda Williams. Walking around Flint experiencing the cold and the features of winter ie bare trees with no leaves, icy patterns on grass spiders webs etc Week 2&3- Snow Kippers Snowy Day, Penguins –nonfiction, Snowman and Robin, Snow Carol Thompson, Big Bear Little Bear, Create a polar tray to investigate. Investigate the outdoor environment in winter and consider how the animals and bids as well as ourselves keep warm. Make bird feeders to help to look after the birds in winter when food is scarce. Week4&5-Rain Alfie’s Feet, Rain, The Rainy Day. Look at and record the weather. Investigate puddles. Read The Rainy Day to learn how the water cycle works. Observe how the weather can change within a day and how we can adapt and make changes eg clotyhes and protection to take account of the changing weathet conditions. Week 6 The Weather Monster, Elmers weather. Valentines Day –What Colour is Love. Children observe the weather, choose an appropriate symbol to represent the weather and record the weather for a week. Week 7 Welsh Focus Week, Bore Da. Use the schools locality to celebrate being Welsh -visit the church, library and castle. Week8&9 Wind One Stormy Night, Blown away, Wind, Rosie’s Hat The Windy Day. Children have the opportunity to feel the elements when outside and look at and feel how the weather changes. Pupils to make choices and communicate theiir responses when in the school and wider locality. Week10&11 Sun, Sun Carol Thompson, Look at the sun, shadows and how the weather changes all the time in our country. Mothers Day using I love my mummy discuss what out Mummy’s do for us , why we love them and how we can show it. Week11&12 Easter. Read the Easter story- reinforce the celebrations of Easter Sunday using all of the examples of new life in our environment with plant and animal life within the local area.
