Welcome & Introductions – David Lee, Director East Ridge Mission, Vision, & Goals for Youth Football – Dan Fritze, Head Coach ERAA Coaching Requirements – Wade Tollison, Director of Coaching Key Dates – David, Wade & ERAA BOD Odds and Ends – David Lee 1. Youth night committee will be following up with the players thru the coaches that did not purchase the tickets on eval nights and ask that coaches help us get that completed in the first two weeks of the season 2. Reminder That Dicks 20% off is this Saturday 3. We need a few more volunteers to man the table on sat at dicks..(Mike E put it up on dibs – update on what is needed) 4. 5 Coaching Expectations
Treat practice as the last class period of the day Be respectful when critiquing players No screaming or singling kids out Our kids will not play with a fear of failure “The carrot is mightier than the stick.” Instill discipline and challenge kids

8 1. Put the TEAM before yourself
Develop an eagerness to sacrifice personal glory for the welfare of the team. “The star of the team is the TEAM.” Our opponents will face individuals – united as a team – who are fully prepared to battle hard and compete at their highest level. The score will take care of itself.

ERAA Football Coaches Meeting: 7/12/17 Trusted Coaches® membership certification: Deadline 7/31 Required for ALL Flag Football HCs Required for NEW HCs / Acs (1 HC & 2 AC per team for 3rd – 8th Grade) Required for ALL Parent Volunteers (Background Check, Positive Coaching, Concussion) ERAA Football BOD Head Coach Selection & Communication: 7/12/17 – 7/19/17 ERAA Football Assistant Coach Selection & Communication: 8/1/17 USA Football® Level 1 Certification: Deadline 7/31 Concussion recognition & response, equipment fitting, heat preparedness, Heads Up Tackling & Blocking All returning Coaches must re-certify and re-pass Trusted Coaches background check USA Football Positive Coaching & Heads Up Football Coaching Continuing Education & Practice / Game audits

16 ERAA Coach Expectations
The Future: Youth football is at the core of the program’s long term success. The youth football culture must be aligned with the high school’s mission. That mentality must start at earliest point of the football experience. Areas of Alignment: Base numbering system (even – right and odd – left) Play calling system for the offense (Rip and Liz). Cadence (Down, set, hit) Huddle Teach proper stance and splits (2-3ft.)

Coaching East Ridge Football is about teaching and encouraging kids to develop their football skills and to have fun playing the game of football Safety (good fundamentals, hydration, etc.)is our top priority How we measure results and success of coaches – player development and return rate, not by number of wins. Positive Reinforcement: 5:1 ratio Teach Fundamentals Provide Opportunity to Learn Many Positions Promote Teamwork Promote Good Sportsmanship Discipline & Respect Effort Is the primary Measure of Performance Fun

21 Team Formation Grades with multiple teams will all practice together to start the practice season(up to 2 weeks) Once teams are formed, coaches can decide the cadence of how often they practice/scrimmage with the other team(s) Goal is to have talent equally distributed between teams. Grade Coordinator will arbitrate team selection

22 Events Per Week 3rd Grade
4 activities per week until School starts then 3 per week  max 75 minutes per practice 4th grade            max 90 minutes per practice 5th – 6th grade     4 activities per week   105 minute practice max 7th – 8th grade     5 activities per week 2 hour max practice

Coach/Parent/Player Code of Conduct – why? Key Dates July 20th – Chalk Talk (7-9PM – Room 2045) July 26th – Chalk Talk (7-9PM – Room 2045) Aug 1 – Final equipment distribution night – 6:30PM TBD – First week of Flag Football Week Aug 7 – first week of practice - Tackle Grade 3-6 (1st game pre-Labor Day) Week Aug 14 - first week of practice – Tackle Grade 7-8 (1st game after LD) October 6– Youth Night – kids free with jersey. - Tackle Rules Grades 3-6 Know the rules - meet other coaches, ID skill players and be clear. Rule change: Grade 3-4: Pass only, Grade 5-6: Pass and run between tackles. NO SCREENS MEYFL and North Suburban scheduling Jersey’s this year… Need to fill - Board Positions: Director, Equip Coordinator, GC’s, Field Coordinator, Assoc Dir., League Rep, (2018) Volunteers – talk to your parents. Youth Night, Equipment Distribution and more. Tournament – May not host this year. Need coordinator. New selection process. Team Formation 1-3 teams per grade Balanced teams (No A/B teams)
