1 Help Advance Climate Solutions in Indiana
GOALS CALLS TO ACTION Contact U.S. Congress to say “No” to cuts to climate programs, “Yes” to the “Climate Solutions Caucus”. The White House’s budget would eliminate the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative and seriously cut funding for cleaning up contaminated sites & safeguarding our drinking water, among many other things. It would also seriously hurt climate research and climate protection programs (across all agencies). TAKE ACTION: Program Sen. Donnelly (202) ; Sen. Young (202) , & your Congressperson into your phone. (Find your legislators at Urge your Senators to say “No” to the White House EPA Budget and “No” to planned major cuts to federal climate programs and say “Yes” to joining the Climate Solutions Caucus. Reduce Indiana’s carbon footprint by advocating before lawmakers and making changes in your own life. The three biggest sources of greenhouse gas emissions in the world come from the agricultural, electricity, and transportation sectors. Here in Indiana, here’s what you can do: Agriculture: Oppose state legislation that would open the door to more polluting, carbon intensive factory farms in Indiana. Support meat-free alternatives (e.g., “Meatless Mondays,” urban gardens, and farmers’ markets) and support incentives for locally grown, organic vegetable farming. Electricity: Support state legislation that expands rooftop solar energy. Get involved in the Sierra Club/HIPL “Rockport campaign” related to moving Indiana beyond coal. Install energy-efficient lighting, windows, air conditioning, and heaters in homes, offices, and places of worship. Transportation: Support state legislation that would empower communities to raise new money for mass transit. Ride the bus. Carpool. Bike or walk wherever you safely can. Expand Indiana’s carbon sink. The Mounds Greenway would be a linear park that would help safeguard a rich stretch of forest land along the White River. --- it would be a new “carbon sink” for Indiana. More broadly, there’s a proposal to forever protect 10% of our state forest from logging – creating an even greater carbon sink for Indiana. Urge Gov. Holcomb to sign on with his support for the Mounds Greenway and to permanently protect no less than 10% of our state forest system.
