1 The ecology of Russia Kaneva Regina Form 11 B 2017

2 People must take care of their Motherland.
Don’t blow it – good planets are hard to find! About 200 years ago people lived in harmony with nature. However, the people’s contradictions with nature are dramatic today. Our Earth is our home. People must take care of their Motherland.

3 There’s plenty you can do to make your neighbourhood a cleaner, greener place!
We can… start a community recycling programme. save limited raw materials. organize a litter collection day. plant trees, plants and flowers because they make our communities more welcoming places to live in.

4 Did you know that packaging makes up 32 % of the total weight of solid waste? This is bad news as most packaging is not recyclable, but dumped in landfills or burnt. This results in more pollution.

5 Don’t buy products simply because of the way they look! Instead…
Choose products that use minimal packaging or ‘green’ packaging that is reusable, recyclable or biodegradable. Take cloth bags to the supermarket instead of asking for more plastic bags. Buy in bulk, not in small packages. If we all do our bit, then the problem of packaging will be a wrap!

6 We never know the worth of water till the well is dry…
Clean water is our most precious resource, yet every day we dump about 2 million tons of waste into the world’s rivers, lakes and streams. The problem of water pollution is one of the most important ones in our modern world. The solution of problem: Everyone can reduce the amount of water he or she uses. Every person shouldn’t litter and let his pets do this too. We shouldn't let grass clippings or leaves get washed into storm drains.

7 More than 40 years ago a pulp-and-paper factory was built on the shore of Lake Baikal. As a result, because of the water pollution, more than 50 % of the world’s purest water has been ruined. The whole ecological system of the lake has changed greatly. Some organisms that can be found only in Lake Baikal have disappeared. So, scientists, writers, people discuss the problem of Lake Baikal in the press and in the government. Lake Baikal has been declared a specially protected zone of the country.

8 Green Belts? What are they?
A Green Belt is a zone of land around urban areas where all housing and other development is forbidden or severely restricted. They provide opportunities for sports and other outdoor recreations. These spaces provide habitats for wildlife. Trees and plants clean city pollution from the air too.

9 The problem of animal’s protection is one of the most important today.
The animals’ parts of the body are used to make souvenirs. Buying souvenirs made from ivory, animal skins, teeth, bones, coral or turtle shells endangers animals and keeps poachers in business. Don't help drive innocent animals to extinction!

10 Russia is full of wonderful reserves.
Great Arctic State Nature Reserve is one of them.  It is the largest reserve of Russia and Eurasia. This reserve is situated in Krasnoyarsk region of Russia. It covers over km². Many animals and plants are meant to thrive within the Great Arctic State Nature Reserve without human disturbance. Among the animals that are protected by this reserve are the polar bear, the Arctic fox, the snowy owl, the reindeer and the beluga.

11 The world is a beautiful place and it is a pleasure to look at it.
There are many beautiful places in the world to go on holiday, but there is also the worry that your tourism is damaging them. The UNESCO World Heritage List features 830 sites which have 'outstanding universal value' around the world. It includes the Virgin Forests of Komi, the Lake Baikal, the Golden Mountains of Altai, the Wrangel Island and others.  The world is a beautiful place and it is a pleasure to look at it.

12 What can I do? Are you a green citizen?
I ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ as much as I can. I turn off computers, lights, electronic equipment when I don’t use them. I use energy-saving light bulbs at home instead of ordinary ones.

13 We are all citizens of Russia and rely on it for food, air, water and much more, so not only it is our responsibility to care for the environment, it’s also in our best interests!

14 Thank you for attention!
