Why did a keyword search for Truck Duck bring up the record for The Cat on the Mat is Flat? How many Large Print books in Portuguese are available in the County? What is the third word in the second paragraph of the New York Times article “Food Allergies Take a Toll on Families and Finances.”? This also works well for introducing new staff (and patrons) to the library or for usability testing of online interfaces!

Use a Jeopardy! format for quizzing staff on frequently asked questions.
Use in meetings, training sessions, or online. Lightens the atmosphere when testing staff knowledge.

Use fun examples in your demonstrations, or ask the participants to choose examples.

Give them a well defined activity with a time limit. Some sort of sharing of results is part of the process. Give participants the chance to mess it up.

People can’t learn if they’re bored stiff.
Don’t be afraid to have fun and try new things. Keeping things light does not mean you’re being “unprofessional.” Keep your goals in mind, but otherwise let go and have fun!
