Gas DTS Performance in 2011 - demand
Annual demand PJ, an increase of 0.14 PJ from The change was not material, however, System demand (total industrial, commercial and residential demand) decreased from PJ to PJ GPG demand increased from 7.57 PJ to 8.36 PJ Export demand increased from 4.01 PJ to 9.95 PJ (Culcairn – 8.73 PJ, Iona – 1.15 PJ, BassGas – 0.07 PJ) Peak day demand 1170 TJ (occurred on 7 June), compared with max system capacity of 1353 TJ In the day, 1147 TJ was a system demand, 23 TJ was exported , and only 0.01 TJ was GPG demand 1126TJ was injected in the day. There was linepack reduction due to the imbalance between demand and supply
4
Gas DTS Performance in 2011 - supply
Annual supply totalled PJ A total of 70TJ (1280 tonnes) of LNG was scheduled and vaporised during the year
5
Gas DTS Performance in 2011 - supply
Peak day supply totalled TJ/d
6
Gas DTS Performance in 2011 – pipeline flow and production
South West Pipeline flows showed stronger seasonality and a distinct winter peak compared with 2009 and Longford to Melbourne Pipeline flows showed a reduced seasonality compared with 2009 and 2010 Gas production in Port Compbell showed a more defined winter peak, reflecting the flow pattern of the South West Pipeline Daily LMP and SWP flows to Melbourne from 2009 to 2011

Gas DTS Transmission Development – demand used in study
Time horizon for the study: 2013 – 2022 Demand forecast used in the study System demand Existing GPG demand: 25TJ/d Export demand to NSW: 38TJ/d Demand for potential new GPGs: scenarios based
8
Gas DTS Transmission Development – GPG scenarios used in study
Scenarios for potential new GPG The 5-year outlook (years 1–5) examines two scenarios: Scenario 1 Metropolitan (M): models generation of 600 MW in the Metropolitan area comprising open-cycle gas turbines (OCGT), with a total gas demand of 40.5 TJ/d. Scenario 2 Latrobe Valley (LV): models total generation of 800 MW, with combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) generation of 500 MW in the Latrobe Valley, with a total gas demand of 85 TJ/d. The 10-year outlook (years 6–10) examines three scenarios: Scenario 3 Metropolitan (M): models total generation of 1,700 MW, with OCGT generation of 1,200 MW in the Melbourne Metropolitan Area, with a total gas demand of 85 TJ/d. Scenario 4 Latrobe Valley (LV): models total generation of 2,300 MW, with CCGT generation of 2,000 MW in the Latrobe Valley, with a total gas demand of 339 TJ/d. Scenario 5 South West (SW): models total generation of 2,700 MW, with OCGT generation of 600 MW in South West Victoria, with a total gas demand of 40.5 TJ/d.

Gas DTS Transmission Development – Summary
Constraint Possible network solution Trigger Gippsland Zone (see Section 5.1.5) 5-year outlook A minimum pressure breach at the Dandenong City Gate. Duplicating the unlooped pipeline either upstream or downstream of the Gooding Compressor Station. New entry GPG (600 MW OCGT in the Melbourne Zone). 10-year outlook Limited Longford pipeline capacity. Higher injections at Longford, and new entry GPG (2,000 MW CCGT in the Gippsland Zone and 300 MW OCGT in the Melbourne Zone). Western Zone (see Section 5.1.6) A minimum connection pressure breach on the Western Transmission System. A new system injection point, or additional compression or looping of the Western Transmission System. Increased system demand, or supply pressure from Iona into the Western Zone is below 4,500 kPa. No constraints identified based on current demand forecasts. NA. Northern Zone (see Section 5.1.7) No constraints identified based on projected export demand of 38 TJ/d. Melbourne and Geelong Zones (see Section 5.1.8) Insufficient South West Pipeline capacity. A new compressor station at Stonehaven, or commissioning the Western Outer Ring Main (WORM) stage 2 (an extension of the 500 mm pipeline from the Plumpton off take to the Wollert Inlet). Higher injections at Iona, and new entry GPG (500 MW CCGT in the Gippsland Zone and 300 MW OCGT in the Melbourne Zone). Insufficient system capacity (involving the South West Pipeline). Assuming the solutions identified in the 5‑year outlook are built, increasing the compression capacity at the Stonehaven Compressor Station by adding another new compressor, and duplicating a section of the SWP. Under two scenarios, the SWP from Iona to Stonehaven is duplicated. Under a third scenario, there is also the option to duplicate the SWP from Iona to Line Valve No.3 and from Stonehaven to the Lara City Gate. When Iona injects more than 500 TJ/d and/or new GPG in excess of 1,700 MW connects to the gas DTS.

Gas DTS Transmission Development –committed projects by APA Group
A new compressor station at Euroa to be commissioned by the end of August 2012, which will be a bi-directional facility that can compress gas for exports north to New South Wales or imports south from New South Wales. This will include a new 4,500 kW dry seal compressor. The Truganina to Plumpton pipeline (WORM stage 1) due to be commissioned by end of July This is a loop to the Sunbury Lateral, which provides a new DN500 (500 mm diameter) pipeline from the BLP at Hopkins Road to the Sunbury branch pipeline at the Plumpton off take point (T62-LV03), including a pressure reduction station. Installation of a heater at the Wandong City Gate to heat gas to maintain temperatures within requirements, which is needed due to the high pressure difference upstream and downstream of the Wandong regulator, and is due to be completed by mid-2012.

Gas DTS Transmission Development –proposed projects by APA Group
Description Trigger Expected completion Western Outer Ring Main (WORM) Project Construction of a 49.3 km DN500 pipeline interconnection between Truganina and Wollert. Installation of a 4.5 MW compressor and pressure limiter at Wollert. Security of supply in the event of a Longford failure. 2014 Kalkallo Project Construction of a 4.5 km DN200 pipeline extension from the proposed WORM to Kalkallo. Load growth in the Kalkallo area. Warragul Looping Construction of a 4.8 km DN150 pipeline looping of the Warragul lateral. Load growth in Warragul. Anglesea Pipeline Extension Construction of a 15 km DN250 pipeline extension from the South West Pipeline to Anglesea. Security of supply to the Geelong distribution network via a second custody transfer station. 2015 Gas to Culcairn Project Construction of a 104 km DN450 pipeline looping of the Wollert to Wodonga pipeline. Installation of a 5.5 MW compressor at Stonehaven. An increase in exports through Culcairn from Iona. Rockbank PRS Installation of a pressure reduction station at Rockbank. To maintain supply reliability to Ballarat in lieu of Brooklyn Compressor Station 11.
