Field of Study of Nursing
Nursing is a field of study in the system of education, administered by Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sports of Slovak Republic through which the graduate of the study programme acquires the professional competences in order to carry out the profession or be prepared to continue in the following university studies. The individual levels of university studies in the nursing study programme are based on theoretical and practical knowledge of current science, development of independent practical and theoretical abilities and skills of the graduate (Law National Council of SR No. 131/2002 Coll. on universities and amending certain laws). Subjects of Study Programme
The importance of completion subjects depend on being: - Compulsory (C) – comprise 75% of the study programme, their successful completion is a condition of successful completion of this part of study and the whole academic programme. - Compulsory Optional (CO) – comprise 15% of the academic programme. - Optional (O) – comprise 5% of the academic programme, the student has the opportunity to register to complete their study and it acquire a sufficient number of credits in the relevant part of their studies. Prior requirements for taking subjects depend on: - subjects conditional on the successful completion of other subjects, the prerequisite or other subjects (e.g. Nursing procedures) - subjects without prerequisites (e.g. Professional Ethics) Project CCNURCA , Presov
6
The Credit System of Study
- the standard student´s workload for each academics year = 60 ECTS credits in full-time study, for 3 years of standard study it is 180 ECTS in total - for acceptance of the nursing study programme the programme must contain at least 108 ECTS credits in core subjects - each subject of the programme is evaluated by the number of credits which then reflects in a quantitative measure of student´s workload Project CCNURCA , Presov
7
Student Workload and Results Education
- the full-time study in terms of time corresponds with student´s work of hours per academic year, known as the workload on the student - it consists of contact hours (e.g. lecture, seminar, practical training) and non-contact hours (e.g. self-study and independent creative activities, individual consultation with teacher etc.). - theoretical education (lectures, seminars, practicals) is converted into credits based on student workload: 1 ECTS = 25 hours of workload on student is dependent on numbers of hours for one subject - practical education (practical training, continuous practical training and summer practical training): 1 ECTS = 30 hours of workload on student dependent on numbers of hours for one practical subject - Bloom´s Taxonomy - stating learning outcomes: 1. knowledge, 2. comprehension, 3. application, 4. analysis, 5. synthesis, 6. evaluation Project CCNURCA , Presov

Examples of Student Workload in Informational Sheet
Name of subject: Neurology and Neurology Nursing Number of credits: 2 ECTS credits 1 ECTS = 25 hours workload on student (theoretical education) Type and scope of educational activities: lecture / seminar / practicals (1/0/1) 1 weekly (15h/semester) / 0 / 1 weekly (15h/semester) Total number of credits: 2 ECTS credits x 25 hours = 50 hours (workload on student) 50 hours = 30/20 hours 30 hours are contact hours (lectures, practical work) 20 hours are non-contact hours = 10 hours (student preparation for written test, study literature etc.) hours (Power point presentation) 1 ECTS = 25 hours (15 hours are contact hours, 10 hours are non-contact hours) Project CCNURCA , Presov

Changes in Study Program in Relation to New Accreditation
Theoretical education Practical education Calculation of workload on student: 1 ECTS = 25 hours workload on student 1 ECTS = 30 hours workload on student Specified conditions for completition of subjects in relation to student´s workload: contact hours: lectures non-contact hours: independent creative activities, individual consultation with a teacher etc. contact hours: practical seminar, practical training non-contact hours: independent creative activities, individual consultation with a teacher etc. Slight increas of hours in theoretical subjects and distribution of 2 semesters, e.g. Nursing Procedures 1-2 Hourse of practical training increased as follows: 1. year (before accreditation 520 hrs, 570 hrs after) 2. year (before accreditation 800 hrs, 1020 hrs after) 3. year (before accreditation 840 hrs, 960 hrs after) Practical education: 2550 hrs after (51,80%) Theoretical education: 2375 hrs after (48,20%) The total amount of hours during the study: 4925 hrs Focus on health information communication technology A general term for Clinical Training and focus on health care is initially done on adults (2.semester – practical training in internal medicine and surgery) then progresses on children (3.semester – practical training in paediatrics medicine) Project CCURCA , Presov

Changes in Study Program in Relation to New Accreditation
Larger part of student s in educational process – teacher tutorial New methods of education: Problematic education Brainstorming Disscusion Case study Documentary of hospital programme KNIS and etc. Reinforcement of nursing subjects Cumulation of clinical subjects with nursing subjects, e.g. Neurology and Neurology Nursing Connection of relative subjects to one subject (interdisciplinary approach), e.g. Hygiene, Epidemiology and Health Education Study workload of subjects interms of credit count Definition of workload for individual student work – preparing students for education Project CCNURCA , Presov

Control of Study and Evaluation of Academic Results
The student must meet requirements in order to gain credits from subjects as follows: - completed (C) – student´s activities (80-90% student´s participation of education) - continuous assessment (CA) - written tests, seminar work etc. - exam (X) – written tests, seminar work, Power Point presentation, oral exam etc. - state exam (SX) - defence student´s clinical skills and nursing process in a hospital, defence of Bachelor´s thesis, presentation of theoretical knowledge The workload on student also vary in terms of the final assessment. Student´s results of academic assessment during their studies is carried out according to the evaluation consisting of six classification grades: A (excellent), B (very good), C (good), D (satisfactory), E (sufficient), FX (insufficient).
