7 Lesson Two Demographics

8 Demographics The statistical data of a population, especially those showing average age, income, education, etc. Demographics give communities information they need to plan future investments and services. They also help determine who gets Federal aid and where assistance programs are targeted Demographics provide valuable insights about a community’s future infrastructure needs, resource allocation, and demand for municipal and other services.

9 How does the wealth of a country impact on education and health care?
You will use demographics to compare different countries that will help you think about questions like…. Does population relate to the number of Gold Medals a country received? How does the wealth of a country impact on education and health care? What factors impact on the access to improved water and sanitation?

10 World Population

11

12 Human Development Index
Looks at data about the education, life expectancy and wealth of a country The index comes up with a number Countries can then be ranked. This information can give you a better idea of how countries compare with each other, not just with wealth but education and health How do you think the HDI may impact on the way a country may perform at the Olympics?

This is because a _________ population provides a _________ chance to find the __________________. However, the Olympic medals table does not give you as good idea about the _________ of a country. This is shown by China’s wealth, which is much _________ than the other top 5 countries even though it was number ______ in the rank. This maybe because __________ hosted the Olympic Games, so they have put more __________ into training athletes to be the best, even though they are not that wealthy. Fill in the blanks with the following words: best athletes, money, good, China, lower, one, larger, greater, wealth.
