2. What is Title I?
Title I is the largest federal education program for elementary and secondary schools. Title I funds are targeted to high- poverty schools and districts and used to provide educational services to students who are educationally disadvantaged or at risk of failing to meet state standards.

3. The Four Goals of Title I
Provide supplementary education to students eligible for services
2. Provide additional funding to schools and districts serving high concentrations of children from low-income families
3. Focus educators on the needs of special student populations
4. Improve the academic achievement of eligible students, reduce performance gaps between advantaged and disadvantaged students, and assist eligible students in meeting high academic standards (Riddle, 1996).

4. 10 Federal Requirements of a Title 1 School-Wide Program
McKinley qualifies for school-wide programming, rather than targeted assistance, which is only available for specific students. All students benefit from a School-Wide program!
Comprehensive Needs Assessment –analyze academic, demographic, enrollment, and perception data to identify school needs
School Wide Reform Strategies- a reform plan to address needs
Instruction by Highly Qualified Teachers
Attract Highly Qualified Teachers to High Needs Schools
High-Quality and Ongoing Professional Development

Strategies to Increase Parental Involvement- multiple opportunities
Transition Plan - for students entering Kindergarten and 6th Grade
Teacher Participation in Making Assessment Decisions
Timely Additional Assistance - interventions for students having difficulty mastering state standards
Coordination of Services and Programs- a plan for allocation of resources

7. THE Van Dyke Title I program
Provides:
Services based on the academic needs of students in Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies
Opportunities for students and parents to participate in district and building level Family Events
Full Day Kindergarten partially funded through Title 1
Summer School programs
Treasures Reading Program
Instructional Specialists provide interventions in each elementary school are partially funded
Social work services in each building
Technology equipment and upgrades

McKinley Special Persons Day to support Math, Language Arts goals
Family Activities such as Family Math Night, Reading Presentations, and Writers Among Us Celebration
