WPCAMR/EPCAMR role Awardees had several things in common: Applications were for On-the-ground projects that directly and immediately benefitted water quality to AMD impacted watersheds. Groups have a history of removing waste coal piles for electricity generation and support the beneficial use of coal ash Groups have a history of implementing successful AML/AMD projects Groups maintain diverse partnerships and secure various funding sources to complete projects. Huntingdon County Conservation District
Will add existing limestone sand at 3 stream locations in the Shoup’s Run Watershed. Awarded $750.00

Limestone dosing of Shoup’s Run
Huntingdon County Conservation District and the Southern Alleghenies Conservancy are responsible for maintaining the AMD treatment systems constructed by the Shoup’s Run Watershed Association including the three limestone dosing sites. These sites are essential to sustaining water quality that is supporting a population of native wild brook trout.

AMD and AML analysis of the West Creek Headwaters Awarded $1,250.00

West Creek Headwaters AML Analysis
Large Coal waste piles on this private land lie within a AMD-impacted sections of an otherwise pristine watershed. The amount of their contribution to the pollution is unknown. This assessment will help the landowners identify if a problem exists and empower them to leverage additional funding to remediate their land and further improve the water quality of West Creek.

Project intends to design/build a wayside exhibits for EC’s Askam Borehole AMD Treatment System in Hanover Township, PA Luzerne County for environmental education and outreach purposes with assistance from students from the Wilkes-Barre Area School District. Awarded $1,200.00

EC will be working with EPCAMR, the Wilkes-Barre Area School District, and students to develop several wayside Environmental Education exhibits with the area surrounding the Askam Borehole AMD Treatment System in Hanover Township, Luzerne County, PA

McGlynn Learning Center
The McGlynn Center, a safe and welcoming place for the children and youth who reside at the Boulevard Townhomes and Mineral Springs Village, is committed to service and education. The Center, located within the W-B Boulevard Townhomes has been serving vulnerable children of Wilkes-Barre since The Center provides after-school tutoring, recreational and cultural activities in a safe environment at no cost to children who live in the projects. Wilkes-Barre, PA Awarded $500.00

Build a Birdhouse for Abandoned Mine Lands
Through a partnership with Home Depot and EPCAMR, McGlynn Learning Center will perform a birdhouse clinic for 24 underserved, low-income youth to be erected on AML sites and near AMD sites to allow for increased wildlife habitat and bird populations. Many of the birdhouses will be stained with EPCAMR’s iron oxide stain while others will be painted. Funds will be used to transport the students to the sites, HOME DEPOT, provide an AMD tour, and install the signs.
