In the Van Hall institute all the walls are made of rough concrete, that’s good for the environnement because you don’t have to use paint

8. The Dutch wood (larix)
In this building they have used only Dutch wood because you don’t have to transport the wood around the world so you save money and lower the Co2 emission

In the building they also used a coconutfloor that’s because it’s healthy for the environnement (no chemical materials used in the floor)

15. Lime (leem)
Lime is a natural product made of clay, straw and water. When you have lime on the walls your walls are breathing better than a normal plaster.

In the Wenning they only used larixwood from the forest next door. And no chemical products for preparing the wood only the naturalbinders

Hempfiber isolation is made of hemp. It’s a natural product. And the properties are good, like good sound absorption and it has a high isolation value

Woodfiber isolationboards (Pavatex) is made of waste from the woodindustry. The wood has been bound by the natural binders like resin that are in wood. And the wood is water-resistant if you mix it with some latex.

23. Fonobeton
Fonobeton is made of recycled paper and cartboard. And they mix it with the concrete for the second floor, its a good isolation for sound and heat.

The floors and the roof are built with wooden structures or innovative system. Most of the indoor structures and the roof are made of wood, mostly dry assembled. The roof is ventilated and insulated with hemp panels.

25. Poroton
Fired-clay bricks used for the walls (45 cm thick) are produced with a honeycomb structure of vertical perforations, that reduces its weight while maintaining adequate strength and a good thermal resistance. Additional thermal resistance is given by mixing sawdust before firing, resulting in “micro-pores” so to supply a 'thermal block'. Here the insulation is improved with cork panels.

The walls are the old one, they are made by stone, normal brick and brick in raw earth. To fill up the holes they put in it calcium whith a easy metod: the bottles

The also use lime in Italy. They make it from clay, straw and water. They use it for the isolation of the walls.

For the street around the building they don’t use asphalt but they use the local earth with a little part of concrete and old materials thet came from other yard. To make a solid street they pressed all with a crush stone

The brick that they use are made in concrete and wood. The wood is red pine tree. They have two hole in vertical direction were put the iron armor and concrete. In it there is air, so they have a good termic and acoustic isolation. They use this brick for wall and also for the ground

36. The conclusion
After seeing sustainable building in Holland and Italy we have seen some differents between Holland and Italy. But the biggest difference is that in Holland they are working longer with sustainable materials, so there are more products availeble to use.
In Italy they just started with sustainable building wich is a good thing!
