USCG LMR Enforcement Report April-July 2013
Total number of LMR boardings: 51 (April: 13, May: 17, June: 7, July: 14) On 10MAY CGC DEPENDABLE boarded a Venezuelan fishing vessel 80NM S of Ponce, PR. The vessel had failed to properly to stow its fishing gear within the US EEZ. The boarding team issued the vessel a fishing violation and directed it to exit the US EEZ.

On 14MAY CGC KEY LARGO boarded a 20’ fishing vessel 12 NM W of Puerto Rico, and the boarding team noted that the master had fishing traps illegally placed within Tourmaline Bank. 13 traps were removed , and the master agreed to abandon the catch within the traps. KEY LARGO transferred the seized traps to NOAA.

On 23JUNE, the CGC MATINICUS located two Venezuelan flagged fishing vessels in the US EEZ 115 NM south of Ponce The MATINICUS directed both vessels to leave the EEZ, they complied with order, and MATINICUS escorted them during their transit.

On 28MAY-29MAY, Sector San Juan hosted the South East Regional Fisheries Training Center’s Caribbean Living Marine Resources Course. 11 Coast Guard law enforcement officers and 1 ranger from the Puerto Rico Department of Natural and Environmental Resources attended.
