KEYS TO A GOOD STORY Planning Suspense Write about what you know
Some stories take years to plan & research. Make sure that your stories are well planned & researched to give them authenticity. Suspense Don’t give the game away. Change tack to drag out the suspense Write about what you know This will add to the authenticity. If you are writing a story that uses fear, imagine yourself in a scary situation to enable you to write about your physical & emotional reactions accurately.

CHARACTERS Character’s name Draw them / picture them Age & Gender
The name has to suit the circumstance – strong names for strong characters Draw them / picture them Age & Gender Special skills & abilities Personal circumstances Relationships, parents, friends, where they live Use bits & pieces of people you know This makes the character feel real. Don’t base a character entirely on one person. Know your characters before you start writing about them. Perhaps draw a chart & fill in the details Give your characters so much conviction that the reader gets emotional

PLOT Love triangles or friendship triangles are used over & over again in good stories. They force characters to take sides & choose. They build suspense & force the reader to ask questions

ATMOSPHERE What do you want to portray?
Fear – dark, lightening, storms, noises Give detailed descriptions of scenes This enables readers to visualise the situation

Thief Steal peoples character traits, magical moments & memories. Give them to your own characters Liar Make sure your stories are believable but they need not be the truth. Bully Tell your characters what to do and how to behave Coward Imagine the fear & pass it on to your characters
