1 SAT Prep GRADE 11 MS. AMORIN

2 What does SAT stand for? “Scholastic Assessment Test”
The SAT is a standardized paper-and-pencil test administered by the College Board that measures critical thinking skills. It tests your ability to analyze and solve problems in math, critical reading, and writing.

3 What is the purpose of the SAT?
It is a requirement for admittance into most universities. Colleges look at THREE MAIN things: - GPA - Involvement in activities, sports, and the community - SAT*

5 What is the purpose of this class, SAT Prep?
To either improve or get a very good score on the SAT!!!!! PRACTICE!!!! Practice a variety of exercises that will be on the SAT. Learn different strategies to help one do well on the exam.

6 What will students learn in this class?
The different parts of the SAT The point/ grade layout of the exam How students will be scored Strategies that will help students do better on the exam New vocabulary words (and vocabulary strategies) that are likely to be seen on the SAT Time management All these skills are learned by paying attention, applying what is being taught, and practicing! 

7 What is on the SAT? (Language Arts*)
Reading - Reading comprehension (passage based) Writing & language - Grammar (improving sentences) (editing paragraphs) Essay (optional)

8 HOW LONG IS THE SAT? The SAT (English & Math) takes 3 hours to complete. The SAT w/ essay takes 3 hours and 50 minutes to complete. The Language Arts section takes 1 hour and 40 minutes without essay. (BUT 2 hours and 30 mins WITH essay)

9 1600 SCORING The highest possible score on the SAT is
Three sections: Math + Reading/Writing 800 points each = 800 (math) (reading) = *1600 Good “average” national score= 1050 range (Note: Highest score from each section is taken if SAT is taken multiple times)

10 SCORING…. Each question = 1 point One wrong question = 0 points
Blank/ no answer to question = 0 points No penalty for wrong answers, so guess! Scores will be available online 2-3 weeks after test is taken.

$54.50 w/essay $43.00 (just SAT)

Two #2 pencils √ Calculator √ Snack √ Beverage √ Dress in layers √ BE EARLY or on TIME: NO late admittance. √ Have a nutritious breakfast. √

16 The “College Board” is the group who constructs the SAT.
We will be learning strategies from the College board prep text. We will be practicing exercises from both College Board and Princeton Review. FREE practice tests are available on the collegeboard.com website. SAT question of the day-: Collegeboard.com . (math & language arts)

18 Class RULES* When students are absent, they have two days for each day they are absent to make up the work (district policy). Students are to check make-up bin for work when they are absent. Students are not excused from assignments when they are absent. Homework board always has assignments and their due date. Students are recommended to write HW in planner. It is expected that students are respectful to both their teachers and peers. Be mindful of others who may have different opinions and beliefs. As the saying goes, “Treat others how you would like to be treated!”

19 CLASS GRADING Math and Language Arts will be averaged together
50% + 50%= 100% Language Arts Grades consist of: Minor assessments (12-20) < 30% of grade > - Strategies quizzes - Vocabulary quizzes - Practice CW assessments (content) - “Do Now” assessments Major Assessments (3-4) < 20% of grade > - SAT strategies TEST - Vocab. / Do Now TEST - Practice TEST CLASS GRADING
