Qualitative findings Focus groups identified project name, logo, tagline, marketing strategy, and format of crowdsourcing contest. Detailed, simple explanations of crowdsourcing contests, HIV cure research, and how community members could contribute ideas were necessary. People expressed that not having scientific knowledge about HIV was prohibitive factor in contest participation. In-person community engagement events with community partners was most effective recruitment method.

Quantitative findings
Online Engagement Statistics for Social Media Recruitment Recruitment source of contest participants (n=39): In-Person Events: n=32 (82%) participants Social Media: n=7 (18%) participants Conclusions Combining recruitment through in-person events and online reaches range of people to participate in crowdsourcing contests. Community partnerships are vital to successful recruitment. Community contributions to crowdsourcing contests may provide useful content for culturally relevant and locally responsive social marketing campaigns.
