2 GBV A woman’s (and man’s) issue, a public health issue, and a human rights issue BUT ALSO a DEVELOPMENT issue, affecting poverty, social development, and economic growth. Not helpful to see GBV in isolation – rather see as part of a ‘continuum of violence’, with many shared risk factors for other types of violence. Traditionally GBV has had a victim focus – newer approaches explore prevention of GBV involving families and – particularly – men.

7 Integrated Crime and Violence Prevention in Urban Projects (WB)
Pilots in Brazil, Honduras, Jamaica, Haiti. Substantial investments in basic infrastructure/urban services Integrate crime and violence prevention approaches and use ‘flooding’ principle – include ‘quick wins’ and medium and long term prevention activities. Aim is to ‘Tip’ community towards sustained social change. Modeled on ‘Fica Vivo’ program in Minas Gerais, Brazil and experiences from South Africa a.o.
