2 First Trimester Months 1, 2, & 3 Weeks

3 Weeks 1 & 2 During the first two weeks, you may not even suspect that you are pregnant if you were not planning your pregnancy.

4 How big is your baby? How big are you? Baby’s Development. Weeks 3 & 4
Size varies from 0.014inch to 0.04 (0.36mm to about 1 mm) in length. How big are you? You are not showing at all. Baby’s Development. Placenta forming Vascular Networks forming

5 How big is your baby? How big are you? Weeks 5 & 6
Crown-to-rump length is 0.08 to 0.16 inch (2 to 4mm). How big are you? You may have gained a few pounds. If you have been nauseated and not eating well, you may have lost weight. You legs and breast could be larger You may notice your clothes getting tighter.

6 Baby’s Development. Weeks 5 & 6 CONTINUED
The central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and muscle and bone formation begin to take shape. The skeleton is starting to form. Neural groove closes. Early brain chambers form. Eyes are forming. Limb buds appear. Heart tubes fuse and heart contractions begin.

0.16 to 0.2 inch (4 to 5mm) at the beginning This is about the size of a BB pellet. By the end of the week the baby is 0.44 to 0.52 inch (11 to 13mm) How big are you? Still little to no change. Baby’s Development. Leg and arm buds have grown larger. Limbs have divided into segments for hands and feet. Right and left heart chambers are formed. Primary bronchi are present. Eyes and nostrils are developing.

In week 8, 0.56 to 0.8 inch (14 to 20mm) About the size of a pinto bean. In week 9, 0.9 inch to 1.2 inches. About the size of a medium green olive. How big are you? Your uterus is growing larger,but you probably still cannot notice any difference.

9 Baby’s Development. Weeks 8 & 9 CONTINUED
Eyelid folds are forming and almost cover eyes. Tip of nose is present. Ears are forming internally and externally. Aortic and pulmonary valves of the heart are present. Lungs are branched. The body’s trunk is getting longer and straightening. Fingers and toes are beginning to form. Elbows are present. Neck is more developed. The baby now moves his or her limbs.

Weeks 10 & 11 How big is your baby? The length is 1.75 to 2.4 inches. Before now the baby has been too small to measure weekly differences in weight. Fetal weight is about 0.3 ounce (8g). About the size of a large lime. How big are you? Your uterus is almost big enough to fill your pelvis. Baby’s Development. Fingernails appear. External genitalia begin to show.

Weeks 12 & 13 How big is your baby? 2.6 to 3.1 inches. Weighing between 0.5 to 0.7 ounce (13 to 20g). By the end of the month, the baby is about the size of a peach. How big are you? Your uterus fills your pelvis and starts growing upward into your abdomen. You may begin to see your waist line grow Baby’s Development. Fetal growth is striking. The baby’s face looks more human. Intestines withdraw into abdominal cavity.

12 Second Trimester Months 4, 5, & 6 Weeks

Weeks 14 & 15 How big is your baby? 4.1 to 4.5 inches in length. 1.75 ounces in weight. The baby is close to the size of a softball. How big are you? You can easily tell you are pregnant. Baby’s Development. Fine hair covers the body. Ears continue to develop. Bones are getting harder.

Weeks 16 & 17 How big is your baby? 4.4 to 4.8 inches in length. 3.5 ounces (100g) Weight has doubled in two weeks. How big are you? 5 to 10 lb. weight is normal. Baby’s Development. Fat begins to form. Movements become stronger and more frequent. You may have felt the baby move by now.

Weeks 18 & 19 How big is your baby? 5.2 to 6 inches in length. 7 ounces (200g) in weight. How big are you? Your total weight gain is between 8 and 14 lbs. Baby’s Development. Growth has slowed down. Ultrasounds are more helpful at this point because of the baby’s development.

16 You’re halfway there!

Weeks 20 & 21 How big is your baby? 10.5 ounces in weight. 7.2 inches (18cm) in length. About the size of a large banana. How big are you? Your weight gain should be between 10 and 15 lbs. Baby’s Development. Organs are maturing. Digestive system in functioning.

Weeks 22 & 23 How big is your baby? Your baby weighs almost 1lb. Your baby is about 8 inches long. How big are you? You have a definite round appearance. Your weight gain should be between 12 and 15 lbs. Baby’s Development. Fingernails are visible. Organ systems are specialized. Hair is darker. The pancreas is developing.

Weeks 24 & 25 How big is your baby? The baby weighs about 1.5 lbs. Crown-to-rump length is 8.8 inches. How big are you? You are obviously getting bigger. Your uterus is about the size of a soccer ball. Baby’s Development. Believe it or not; if your baby was born now it would have a chance to survive.

Weeks 26 & 27 How big is your baby? The baby weighs 2 lbs. Crown-to-rump length is 9.6 inches. Full length is 15.3 inches. How big are you? Your weight gain is between 16 and 22 lbs. Baby’s Development. Eyelids open.

21 Third Trimester Months 7, 8, & 9 Weeks

Weeks 28 & 29 How big is your baby? 2.7 lbs. in weight. 10.4 inches crown-to-rump. 16.7 inches total length. How big are you? Your weight gain should equal 19 to 25 lbs. You’ve grown about 1.5 inches in 4 weeks. Baby’s Development. Brain tissue increases. Eyebrows and eyelashes are present. Increased fat underneath skin.

Weeks 30 & 31 How big is your baby? 3.5 lbs. in weight. Crown-to-rump length is11.2 inches. Total length is 18 inches. How big are you? At this point you should be gaining a pound per week. Your total weight gain should equal 21 to 27 lbs. Baby’s Development. There are no major changes. Rapid growth continues.

Weeks 32, 33, & 34 How big is your baby? Your baby weighs about 5 lbs. Crown-to-rump length is about 12.8 inches. Total length is about 19.8 inches. How big are you? Your weight gain should be between 22 and 28 lbs. Baby’s Development. An ultrasound can evaluate the brain, heart, and other organs in the baby. Your baby could begin to drop.

Weeks 35 & 36 How big is your baby? Your baby now weighs about 6 lbs. Crown-to-rump length is 13.5 inches. Total length equals about 20.7 inches. How big are you? Your weight gain should be between 25 and 30 lbs. The uterus is now probably under your ribs. Baby’s Development. Lungs are maturing. Respiratory System is maturing. The baby is now considered full term.

26 Finally, the last month!

Weeks 37 & 38 How big is your baby? Around 6.8 lbs. in weight. Crown-to-rump length is about 14 inches. Total length equals about 21 inches. How big are you? Your total weight gain should be between 25 and 35 lbs. Many women have stopped gaining weight at this point. You probably feel very uncomfortable. Baby’s Development. The baby’s head is probably down in your pelvis. Fetal activity and movement may be slower due to lack of space.

28 How big is your baby? How big are you? Baby’s Development.
Weeks 39 & 40 How big is your baby? Your baby may weigh around 7.5 lbs. However, at this time weight varies tremendously. Crown-to-rump length is 15.2 inches. Total length is 21.5 inches. The lengths vary tremendously as well. How big are you? Your total weight gain should be about 35 lbs. Every woman is different and may gain more or less. You are as big as you ever could be, and ready to have this baby. Baby’s Development. By this time, your baby is just growing.
