1st Amendment – Freedom of Expression
Freedom of Speech Freedom of Religion Freedom of the Press Right to peacefully assemble Right to petition the government

Second Amendment – The right to bear arms
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Third Amendment – No Quartering Act
Soldiers may not be housed in private residences in the United States during time of peace or war without just compensation

4th Amendment – No unreasonable search and seizure

5th Amendment – rights of the accused
Guarantees due process Must be accused of a crime to be jailed (This is called Habeus Corpus) No double jeopardy You can’t be tried twice for the same crime No self-incrimination You are not required to answer questions about your own guilt or innocence

6th Amendment – additional rights of the accused
Trial by jury of ones peers Fair representation Everyone gets a lawyer, If you can’t afford one, you are given one.

7th Amendment – Civil Trials
Jury in civil trials- Civil trials are divorce proceedings, suing for damages or disputes between individuals unrelated to a criminal offense.

8th Amendment – No Cruel and Unusual Punishments
- You can’t have your toe nails pulled out for stealing a pack of gum. The punishment must match the crime.

9th Amendment - Specifies that the rights listed in the Bill of Rights are not the only rights of the people. (You have lots not listed in the Bill of Rights)

10th Amendment – - “All powers not Delegated to the Federal Government are Reserved for the States.” *(This is Federalism)
