3. Icebreaker Two Truths and a Lie Break into two groups
Make up two true statements and one false statement about yourself
Be creative and funny!
Go around the circle saying your two truths and one lie while everyone attempts to guess which statement is the lie.
The person with the best set of statements from each group will go to the front of the room and everyone will try to determine which statement is the lie.

4. individual Goals Form a Student Leadership Group at your school
Work together with fellow leadership members to organize a volunteer effort
Report to SAAC with the results of your volunteer efforts and achievements of your local school’s leadership group

Promoting sportsmanship through the Sunshine State Spirit Showdown
Emphasize the aspects of being a student-athlete through time management and communication within the school leadership
Promote “Competing with Character” on and off the field

Selection of the Sunshine State Spirit Showdown winner
Create guidelines for student-athletes and school leadership to establish student leadership groups so that each group can work together to improve academic and time management goals
Write social media campaign promoting positive student-athlete character while educating students on their online presence, relationships with officials and school rivals

7. SAAC Mission Statement
“We work to represent the best interests of all student-athletes by presenting their concerns to the FHSAA, thereby developing initiatives for future improvement. Our goal is to promote the advancement of sportsmanship and integrity by fostering an ethical, safe, competitive environment on and off the field.”

9. Sunshine State Spirit Showdown - Selecting a Winner!
Discussion led by Quinten Ershock
Objective: Watch and review video submissions to decide on a winner of the Sunshine State Spirit Showdown

10. Sunshine State Spirit Showdown: Overview
Videos must be between 90 seconds and 3 minutes
Must also include at least 30 seconds of discussion about why school should be winner
Cheers must be positive
Sportsmanship is the overall goal for this program
Submission videos were sent to FHSAA by February 1 and YouTube playlist is created with all of the submissions
Videos that meet the requirements will be uploaded to FHSAA social media.
Fans will be encouraged to watch all videos and vote on favorites using Survey Monkey link on social media sites

11. Sunshine State Spirit Showdown: Choosing a Winner
Fans will be encouraged to watch all videos and vote on favorites using Survey Monkey link on social media sites
Fan votes will be divided by school population and the resulting percentage will determine how many of the ten possible bonus points the school will receive to keep competition fair amongst large schools and small schools
SAAC makes final decision on winner which will be determined based on the following criteria:
Positive sportsmanship
Student body & community participation
School spirit
Originality of cheers
Organization of the group and student body
Overall fun
How well did the school follow guidelines
Social media votes

13. Sunshine State Spirit Showdown: Your Task – Selecting a Winner
Rate videos in each distinct category on a 1 – 5 rating scale
1 being low, 5 being high
To keep the contest fair between large schools and small schools..
Fan votes will be divided by school population based on 2016 Population Report
The resulting percentage will determine how many of ten possible bonus points a school will receive.
Bonus points will be added to the overall score
Fan votes are only used to enhance the score provided by the SAAC evaluation
Winner will receive banner and plaque from FHSAA at a pep rally hosted by winning school

Objectives: create guidelines for student-athletes and school leadership to establish leadership groups to showcase importance of academics and time management

How does communication between athletics/school administration and student-athletes happen now?
What is the process to establish a new group/club at your school?
What goals should student leadership groups have?
Describe the qualities you would look for in a student-athlete leadership group leader.
How do you balance academics and your sports?
What are some ways you manage your time?
A downloadable PowerPoint will be posted on the FHSAA website with guidelines for how to establish these groups at your school following our discussion today!

Figure out HOW to create a group within your school
Define tangible goals for student-leadership groups and effectively communicate these goals to the school
Improve personal time management skills to help balance academics

Handling school rivalries
Competing with character: To lead as a student-athlete by examples of sportsmanship, teamwork and leadership both on and off the field.
Learning to write for each platform and for your “personal brand”
How do you think we can portray the athlete-officials relationship in a better light? Think twice before defying a refs call – 10 second rule (Pause for 10 seconds, think, then react)
School rivalries – are you more keen to talk poorly about the other school OR hype up yourself and your teammates, encouraging teamwork to win? Redefine the rivalry by making it more about YOUR team and less about the rival.

Break into 4 teams
Each team is given a different photo. You will have to decide what platform it would be best for and write an accompanying message.
Platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram
Quick overview of platforms:
Snapchat: Behind the scenes – most fun platform! Meant to be lighthearted, silly and fun.
Twitter: Best for reporting news and live updates!
Instagram: Tell a visual story through artistic videos and pictures
Facebook: Focus on heartwarming moments that people will connect with
