Transportation

2 Famous People John McAdam- made a new way of building roads
George Stephenson- perfected the steam powered locomotive that ran on rails. Thomas Newcomen- made the first successful steam engine. Robert Fulton- Established the first regular inland steamboat service. Samuel Cunard- Founded the Cunard Shipping Company. It was  Used to transport people places. James Watt- Improved Newcomen’s steam engine to make a modern one

3 New Methods The Building of New Roads- this helped improve travel conditions. Large rocks served as a base while smaller rocks and dirt covered it up. Another name for these roads are the “McAdam Roads” The Building of New Water Highways- made water travel more convenient Canals- Networks of “river highways” connected each other to make public transportation easier, and shipping too. The Steamboats- made traveling easier. These boats ran completely off of steam, coming from burning coals, they were very efficient and could go quite fast.

4 Pictures of the New Methods

5 Improvements on Existing Methods
Steam Engines- Like the steamboats, coals were burned to form smoke and make the engine work. Steam and power were used since the ancient times. But, none of them were actually successful. in 1712, Thomas Newcomen produced the first successful steam engine Ships soon were being produced of iron and steel, instead of wood Now, ships were being made in less time and in less money than before.

6 Predictions for impact on Great Britain / Predictions for how it will spread & how it will impact other countries We think there will be an impact on Great Britain because the fact that we do need transportation and it is a very important subject. It would most likely improve Britain in their population because they would be able to bring in more people from other places. It will definitely spread because in order for them to go from place to place the people need to introduce the ideas to  other places. So, if other countries have transportation as well, they could spread their ideas that they have. Transportation is a good way to help spread any idea, since transportation can be used to travel to any country.

7 Why is it the most important factor in the advancement of the Industrial Revolution
Transportation is the most important factor of the Industrial Revolution because without this, new ideas could not spread place to place. Also, without transportation, people cannot travel places that they have to be. Its the most important factor because with new roads and water vehicles to travel with, it is easier for more people to come to Britain, thus making a bigger population for this country. Transportation is the most important factor in the advancement of the Industrial Revolution because this can make trade easier. Britain can now be the center of trade, since everyone can now transport themselves to Great Britain. This is the most important because without a form of transportation, it can be very hard to spread new ideas someone might have.
