On tonight’s agenda: Reading Writing Math Social Studies/Science Jupiter Ed Any Extra Information After the presentation, we will gladly answer any questions that time allows. If you have individual questions, please or set up a time to meet with your teacher.

Junior Great Books (spring)
Harcourt Series Weekly stories with specific focus skills and comprehension strategies in a variety of genres. Junior Great Books (spring) More focus on critical thinking and close reading of text. Student generated questions and ideas gathered from text. Time For Kids magazine Focuses on current events and informational text. Accelerated Reader (aka “AR”) Independent reading at the child’s appropriate level. Builds comprehension through computer-based quizzes. Assessments DIBELS NEXT STAR Reading In the Classroom

Reading is a daily homework assignment.
Talk about current events/read the newspaper together. Read together. Any genre, fiction or non-fiction. At Home

Have conversations about your child’s writing. Teach your child how to use a dictionary and thesaurus to reinforce at home as well as at school. At Home

Reinforces classroom concepts Weekly Dot Homework packets
There will be math facts sheets or practice as needed. 20 minutes of reading every night. Please check over your child’s homework, and help them if they are not understanding any concepts. Any unfinished class assignments that are taken home for homework are due back the next day. The agenda must be signed every night. Homework

There are 4 book reports throughout the year
Each is a different genres. Mystery/Adventure is the first Parental guidance is needed. 3 parts Read a book Complete project/written requirements Oral Presentation Follow Timeline MUST BE FINISHED BY DUE DATE Book Reports

AZ Merit- New form of Standardized Testing
It has replaced AIMS, and is better aligned to our state curriculum and standards It goes beyond multiple choice questions, and asks students to perform higher level tasks-critical thinking and problem solving AZ Merit No More AIMS-for now (lol)
