Supporting Behaviour Management

Top Tips Please get into groups and put these behaviour tips into order of importance. Try and work with someone that you are not sitting next to!
15
Top Tips 1. Address the behaviour not the pupil.
2.Listen to the pupil’s reason and explaination for their behaviour. (What happened before?) 3. Deal with behaviour calmly and quietly to minimise disruption. 4. Catch the pupil being good, using positive praise to reinforce good behaviour. 5. Refer the pupil regularly to the class rules.
16
Top Tips 6. Use non verbal cues. E.g. a look, raised eyebrows, being silent, making eye contact, using symbols. 7. Give the pupil a job to do or a message to take. (Timeout) 8. Pair the pupil up with a peer who is a good role model for behaviour. 9. Make explicit the consequence of their actions. If you choose to do that……. then……. 10. Apply sanctions for misbehaviour fairly and consistently 11. Ensure that the pupil can succeed at something in the lesson. 12. If concerned about the safety of the children in the class, please call for a senior member of staff
