1 Primary Liturgy

2 Who is my neighbour?

3 A man approached Jesus and asked...
Teacher, what must I do to have eternal life?

4 And Jesus answered, ‘What do the Scriptures say?’
The man replied, ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind, and love your neighbour as yourself.’

5 Jesus said, ‘You have given the right answer.’
And the man said, ‘But who is my neighbour?’

6 And Jesus told this story…

8 Robbers attacked him and grabbed everything he had.
They beat him up and ran off, leaving him half dead. Image: Distant Shores Media/Sweet Publishing

9 When do we hurt people with unkind words and looks?

10 When are we jealous of others and want the things they have?

11 A priest happened to be going down the same road.
But when he saw the man, he walked by on the other side. Image: Distant Shores Media/Sweet Publishing

12 When do we ignore people who look like they could use our help?

13 Later a temple helper came to the same place.
But when he saw the man who had been beaten up, he also went by on the other side. Image: Distant Shores Media/Sweet Publishing

14 When are we too busy to help a neighbour in need?

15 He treated his wounds with olive oil and wine and bandaged them.
A man from Samaria then came travelling along that road. When he saw the man, he felt sorry for him and went over to him. He treated his wounds with olive oil and wine and bandaged them. Image: Distant Shores Media/Sweet Publishing

16 When do we go out of our way to help others?

17 Then he put him on his own donkey and took him to an inn, where he took care of him.

18 Is there anyone you know who is unwell who you could care for?

19 The next morning he gave the innkeeper two silver coins and said,
Please take care of the man. If you spend more than this on him, I will pay you when I return. Image: Distant Shores Media/Sweet Publishing

20 Are we generous with our money?

21 Then Jesus asked, Which one of these people was a real neighbour to
the man who was beaten up by the robbers?

22 The man answered… The one who showed mercy.

23 Jesus said, ‘Go and do the same.’

24 Who is my neighbour?

25 The elderly person sitting at home?

26 The child in the playground with no friends?

27 The person that is homeless?

28 The child who is hungry?

29 The student who is new to my school?

30 Let us pray… E te Atua, In your loving kindness you have brought us together to find joy in being one community.

31 We give thanks for each member of our school.
For friends and teachers and all of our support staff.

32 Fill us with your Holy Spirit.
Give us confidence as we build our school community together.

33 Help us to take time to show care and concern for each other.

34 Help us to listen to others when we may disagree.

35 Bless us with patience, kindness and
self-control.

36 So that everyone will feel that they belong in our school and wider community.
Amen.

37 We are all neighbours!
