2. JOINT PROGRAMMING INITIATIVE on CULTURAL HERITAGE
The Joint Programming Initiative on Cultural Heritage (JPI CH) is one of the 10 initiatives launched in 2009 by the Council of the EU for the creation of a European Research Area.
JPI CH main objective is to promote the safeguarding of Cultural Heritage in its broader meaning including tangible, intangible and digital dimensions.
The strong relationship between Cultural Heritage, technological innovation and economic development allows for further considerations within the European framework of challenges and competitiveness.

3. JPI on CULTURAL HERITAGE: impact
Public interest in Europe’s cultural heritage is high. According to a Eurobarometer survey, 52% of EU citizens in 2013 visited at least one historical monument or site and 37% a museum or gallery in their home countries, and 19% visited a historical monument or site in another EU country.

5. VISION DOCUMENT : 3 CHALLENGES
Challenge 1 probes the relation between cultural heritage and one of the most serious drivers of future change for communities - climate change
Challenge 2 probes the issues of protection and security of cultural heritage
Challenge 3 probes the relation between the protection of cultural heritage and the uses of cultural heritage by society i.e. the transformational challenge of cultural heritage
Challenge 1 probes the relation between cultural heritage (i.e. historic cities and towns, landscape, archaeology, ancient buildings and collections of artefacts) and one of the most serious drivers o future change for communities - climate change.
Challenge 2 probes the issues of protection and security of cultural heritage. Security of cultural heritage can only be delivered against an improved understanding of the global situation.
Challenge 3 probes the relation between the protection of cultural heritage and the uses of cultural heriateg by society i.e. the transformational challenge of cultural heritage.

Promoting Internationalization actions as current JPI CH priorities.
Enhancing stakeholders' engagement
JPI CH is currently working on the alignment process, according to the strategy outlined by the GPC Group and the Lund Declaration 2015 (Revisited).

12. within the European Year of Cultural Heritage (EYCH).
Internationalization and networking will be pursued through the organization of international events.
Most of them will take part on 2018,
within the European Year of Cultural Heritage (EYCH).
EYCH will represent the opportunity of strengthening collaboration with stakeholders and acting jointly with the leading players promoting the role of cultural heritage in Europe.
For this reason we would like to invite all of you to take part to the JPI CH initiatives that will be held in 2018!

13. 2018 - EUROPEAN YEAR OF CULTURAL HERITAGE (EYCH)
In particular, the following events will be organized:
Conference on Cultural Heritage Governance Strategies: to promote and raise governance strategies in cultural heritage in order to increase its effectiveness as a means of citizens’ engagement.
Workshop on Alignment on Research Programming on Cultural Heritage: to present the European state of play of alignment in the field of cultural heritage research.
Parade 2018: to make the audience - researchers, stakeholders and policy makers – aware of the activities of the JPI CH, through the establishment of interactive moments given by the “LABs” focusing on the scientific debate.

The Joint Communication underlines the central role of Cultural Heritage and Culture in diplomacy :
Supporting culture as an engine for sustainable social and economic development: cultural policies; cultural and creative industries; role of local authorities
Promoting culture and intercultural dialogue for peaceful inter-community relations: cooperation amongst cultural operators; peace-building through Inter-Cultural Dialogue
Reinforcing cooperation on Cultural Heritage: research on Cultural Heritage; combat trafficking of heritage; heritage protection

16. Research and science are the products of our society as is our Cultural Heritage. Scientific research applied to Cultural Heritage is one of the cornerstones of our future, if we are jointly prepared to stand up and face the challenges confronting us all.
