Friedensreich Hundertwasser
-He is by far one of the most famous contemporary artists of Austria. -He is famous for his interest in architecture and designing various postage stamps and coins.

As a painter and an architect, Hundertwasser rejected the “straight line” in any of his projects. The “spiral” dominates the flow of his paintings that are accentuated by the use of vibrant color which the artist make himself from natural pigments.

Pigment- a substance that gives color to other materials. Such as a powder mixed with a liquid to give color Architecture- the art or science of designing and building structures and especially ones that can be lived in. Spiral- winding or circling around a center and gradually getting closer to or farther away from it. Vibrant- extremely bright or vivid with color.

Hundertwasser was born in Austria, but his influences span the globe as he traveled and lived not only throughout Europe but also in Africa and the South Pacific.

Austria will always be considered the primary foundation for the artist as it is home to the Hundertwasser museum as well as his most notable architectural projects. One of these projects is the famous Hundertwasser haus which draws thousands of people to Vienna each year.

Analogous color scheme
Analogous color schemes use colors that are next to each other on the color wheel. They usually match well and create serene and comfortable designs. Analogous color schemes are often found in nature and are harmonious and pleasing to the eye.

The common themes in his work include bright colors, organic forms, love of nature, individualism, spirals, onion domes, 'lollipop' style trees, windows of different shapes and sizes and rejecting straight lines. -His unique buildings are often uneven, lopsided and include twists instead of straight lines.

Students should sketch out their own ideas for their Hundertwasser-style architecture in their sketchbooks. Students must include a number of Hundertwasser's typical architectural details.
