WHY SHOULD ASTEROID MINERS SUPPORT:
United Approach – A stronger space advocate voice increases the likelihood of a fuel depot with guaranteed water purchases. Lunar COTS – The Moon’s manned aspect increases the value of a fuel depot with guaranteed water purchases. Propellant Depots – A guaranteed market for asteroid water would give asteroid mining investors surety. Mars Flyby – Increases the likelihood of an eventual manned Mars mission needing asteroid-derived water. PhD Mission – Increases the likelihood of an eventual manned Mars mission needing asteroid-derived water. Manned Mars Mission – Asteroid water can provide propellant for this mission.

United Approach – A stronger space advocate voice increases the likelihood of Lunar COTS funding and a fuel depot with guaranteed water purchases. Lunar COTS – The Moon’s manned aspect increases the value of a fuel depot with guaranteed water purchases. Propellant Depots – A guaranteed market for Moon water helps with fundraising. Mars Flyby – Increases the likelihood of an eventual manned Mars mission needing Moon-derived water. PhD Mission – Increases the likelihood of an eventual manned Mars mission needing Moon-derived water. Manned Mars Mission – Moon water can provide propellant for this mission.

Lunar COTS – Lunar development would provide the material resources the O’Neillians need. Propellant Depots – Depots increase the likelihood of asteroidal and lunar development which will provide material resources. Mars Flyby – If minimal cost, does nothing to harm the development of in-space resources needed by O’Neillians. PhD Mission – If small cost, does nothing to harm the development of in-space resources needed by O’Neillians. Manned Mars Mission – If modest cost, does nothing to harm the development of in-space resources needed by O’Neillians.

Propellant Depots – In-orbit fuel could reduce the cost of manned Mars missions thereby making Mars settlement sustainable. Mars Flyby – A clear stepping stone to an eventual manned Mars mission. PhD Mission – A clear stepping stone to an eventual manned Mars mission. Manned Mars Mission – The end goal.

WHY SHOULD PLANETARIANS SUPPORT:
United Approach – A united space advocate voice in support of the three-step Martian path increases the likelihood that teleoperated and surface manned Mars missions will occur. Lunar COTS – Lunar-derived water propellant could reduce the cost and/or increase the mass of interplanetary probes. Propellant Depots – Would reduce the cost and/or increase the mass of interplanetary probes. Mars Flyby – An opportunity to demonstrate real-time teleoperated Mars rovers. PhD Mission – An opportunity to demonstrate real-time teleoperated Mars rovers. Manned Mars Mission – On-the-ground, complex planetary science mission.

WHY SHOULD SLSers SUPPORT:
United Approach – A unified approach would lock into the budget a certain percent for SLS, planetary science, and commercial space. An agreement that would ensure long-term funding for commercial space could convince the other camps to support the SLS as part of the agreement. Propellant Depots – Could increase the mass launched BLEO and so ensure that the SLS remains relevant. PhD Mission – Dry mass including supplies would necessitate the use of a HLV. Manned Mars Mission – Dry mass including supplies would necessitate the use of a HLV.
