Welcome to Owls Class

Good Morning… Children to be dropped off on the school playground at The children will be collected by either the TA or Teacher. If it is completely raining children are very welcome to come straight to the classroom where they will be given further instructions. If you are late please come to the school office to sign in. If you would like to speak to a member of staff on a morning please speak briefly to the member of staff who collects the children. Please unless urgent try to avoid coming to the classroom as it is a busy time for setting up. If you would like a longer chat please make an appointment at the school office.

How has your day been?… At the end of the day the children are collected at Owls Class door. They will be sent out by a teacher – we try to send out the children as quickly as possible but obviously the area outside does get busy with parents and our first priority is the children's safety. If your child is going home with a different adult please inform the teacher in the morning or the school office. This is to ensure your child's safety. If you would like a quick word with a member of staff at the end of the day please wait until the last child has been collected. If you would like a longer chat please make an appointment at the office.

Homework We do not want homework to become stressful and we understand that time is very precious. Homework books will be sent home on a Friday and need to be returned Wednesday morning. Year 2’s – Alternating weeks maths and literacy Year 3’s – Maths and literacy every week You need to read with your child as much as possible at home. This could be a school book or a shared text from home.

Reading Please try and read with your child everyday at this age. We have 2 volunteer readers in Owls Class Mrs Lodge and Mrs Anderson-Richardson. We will read individually with the children and in reading skills sessions. Reading books will be changed as frequently as possible the aim however, is not to rush through the scheme but to develop a deeper understanding.

Spellings We are going to have a big focus on common exception words. We have tested all the children's spelling and reading of these words and each child will be sent home their own set of spellings to focus on. These will be refreshed every half term. We will test the children at the end of the half term but will be mainly looking for these words to be spelt correctly in their independent learning. Spelling strategies will be taught within literacy lessons. Mrs Coupland to share spelling dictionaries.

Behaviour Peg system used across school. We also support children's individual needs. Groupings within the classroom are very fluid and depend on the activity, topic or partner work. All children do have a set place for literacy and maths. We are happy for children to work with their friends to discuss and explore their work but we will also encourage them to work outside of their friendship group. Differentiation is supported through adult time, activity and equipment.
