Should you be creating storyboards or prototypes for every course-or both? And if so, how do you do it? So why would you take the time to storyboard or prototype? This short video provides a good explanation.

So, in short, e-learning pros go through the process of storyboarding or prototyping as a way of capturing the course requirements or visualizing features and behaviors
Storyboards and prototypes are both communication tools: technical specs to inform the work of partner developers and creative treatment—and to help the client be an effective partner in the process.

Before jumping into course development, plan some time to clarify roles and responsibilities on your project team. Sometimes our knee-jerk reaction to a lack of clarity or clear accountability is to create MORE process—which may make your job even more complicated. Instead, try starting with a good conversation to set expectations and get everyone on the same page.
One of the best ways to avoid getting stuck in this position is to have a formal project kick-off meeting where all the roles and responsibilities of the project team are clearly defined, including specifying who the decision-makers are and who will be responsible for collecting and reconciling conflicting feedback.
Another one of our E-Learning Heroes, Holly MacDonald, suggested a tool that she uses that can help you clarify these roles and responsibilities up front: “...there should only be one client and they are accountable for the content. Maybe a RACI chart? I find these are helpful to frame discussion about ‘what will we do if...’ at the early part of the project.”
By taking some time up front to clarify roles and responsibilities you’ll be in a much better position to facilitate conversations between reviewers with a clear escalation path for decision-making.

10. Storyboarding & Prototyping Tips
Not sure which method you need? Go with a prototype.
Identify non-overlapping sections and develop them in parallel..
Embrace the idea of team storyboarding.
Keep in mind who you’re storyboarding or prototyping for.
Build a style guide before you storyboard or prototype.
Design a boilerplate storyboard.
Cross referencing is key to effective storyboarding.
Use an online review tool or ask SME’s to consolidate their feedback.
