OBJECTIVES We will be able to find the area and surface area of parallelograms, trapezoids and rectangular prism by using the formula.
2
FORMULAS 2 SA= 2 (lw+ hw +lh) Area of PARALLELOGRAM A= bh
Area of TRAPEZOID A= (b1 + b2) h 2 Surface Area of a RECTANGULAR PRISM SA= 2 (lw+ hw +lh)
3
AREA OF PARALLELOGRAM The formula for area is A=bh where b is the base and h is the height. A= bh A=(17)(12)=204 ft2.
4
Area of Trapezoids
5
Trapezoids b2 h b1 Trapezoids have 2 bases. They are the parallel sides. The height is determined by forming a right angle from base 1 to base 2.
6
Finding the area of trapezoids
Area = ½ h (b1 + b2) b2 10 cm. h 5 cm. 15 cm. b1 ½ 5 ( ) ½ 5 ( 25) 2.5 ( 25) = 62.5 cm2
7
Ready to try some?
8
Area = (b1 + b2) (h) 2 Find the area b2 11 ft. 4 ft. h 16 ft. b1
( )/2 (4) ( 27/2) (4) ( 13.5) (4)= 54 ft.2
9
Find the area 20 ft. 8 ft. 28 ft. ½ 8 ( ) ½ 8 ( 48) 4 ( 48) = 192 ft.2
10
Area = ½ h (b1 + b2) Find the area 8m. 5 m. 16 m. ½ 16 ( 8 + 5)
½ 16 ( 13) 8 ( 13) = 104 m.2
11
Area = ½ h (b1 + b2) Find the area 4 in. 6in. 9 in. ½ 6 ( 9 + 4)
½ 6 ( 13) 3 ( 13) = 39 in.2
12
Area = ½ h (b1 + b2) Find the area 35m. 24 m. 31 m. ½ 24 ( 31 + 35)
½ 24 ( 66) 12 ( 66) = 792 m.2
13
Area = ½ h (b1 + b2) Find the area 12 cm. 10 cm. 16 cm.
½ 10 ( ) ½ 10 (28) 5 ( 28) = 140 cm.2
