Notebooks in Biology
6
Our Notebooks Do not write on this page! Leave the next 3 pages blank.
Table of Contents Date Description Page 8/23/17 Characteristics of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells 1 Do not write on this page! Leave the next pages blank. We will use those for your table of contents.
7
Our Notebooks We will reserve the left side of our notebook for:
We will do all of our writing on the right side of our notebook. This includes; Date Daily Objectives Key Terms Notes Writing Frames Reflective and Analytical Entries Drawing with labels: Petals Pollinators Leaves Stem Diagrams & Graphs
8
What else can go on the left side?
Our Notebooks Date What else can go on the left side? Objective(s): Key Term(s): Notes: Photographs This section includes but is not limited to notes (from direct instruction, hands on experiences, videos, readings, research, demonstrations or responses to guided questions), investigative planning as well as to reflect on and discuss your findings and ideas. “I smelled… I felt… I observed…”,“ My results show…”, “The variable I will change is…”, or “I think that because…”. Samples and Artifacts Supplemeental readings or newspaper articles Pg. #
9
Research Get a copy of the Biology STEMscopedia and turn to the chapter on cells. Prokaryotic Eukaryotic In your notebook create two circle maps: label one the other
10
Research Research the characteristics of each
type of cell and use the information to complete your circle maps (15 minutes solo time by yourself then 5 minutes with with a partner.) Prokaryotic Eukaryotic
11
Share your findings with at least 3 other people who were not a part of your research group.
12
What are they and why do we need them?
Cell Organelles What are they and why do we need them?
13
Now lets research the following cellular organelles
Now lets research the following cellular organelles. You may use any appropriate tool (textbooks, computers, tablets, etc.) to complete your research Cell Wall, Cytoplasm, Nucleus, Ribosomes, Flagella, Mitochondria, Chloroplast, Endoplasmic Reticulum, Central Vacuole, Golgi Bodies, Plasma Membrane, Lysosomes
14
Draw a picture of the organelle.
Name of the organelle Function (what does the organelle do.) In what type of cell would you find the organelle? (prokaryotes, eukaryotic plants, or eukaryotic animals) Does your animals cells contain this organelle? If so, why is it important to them? Record your findings in your notebook as shown in the diagram on the left. You can use both the right and left sides of your journal to record your information. Draw a picture of the organelle. Name of the organelle Function (what does the organelle do.) In what type of cell would you find the organelle? (prokaryotes, eukaryotic plants, or eukaryotic animals) Does your animals cells contain this organelle? If so, why is it important to them?
15
Locate the Characteristics of Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic Cells cards and accompanying graphic organizer. Make a comparison between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells by placing each card in the appropriate place on the organizer.
17
Locate the Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic Cell Comparison Table and the envelope containing the Cell Structure and Function cards. Remove the cards from the envelope and place them in the correct column on the table. Note that there are three copies of each card; this is because some cards may belong with more than one cell type.
19
When you have finished placing the cards in your organizer. Check with the other groups and compare your answers. Then create a chart like the one below in your notebook and record your answers.
