2 Welcome work Check the assignments board for the materials that you will need today and take them out. Put away your backpack quickly and quietly. Finish your symbolism self-portrait.

3 The Lightning Thief If you have never read The Lightning Thief or read the book, jot down some predictions you have based on this trailer. If you have read the book or seen the movie, write down some reading and writing skills that you think we could practice as we read this book.

4 TAbleau With your group, read about the mythological creature assigned to your team. Brainstorm how you can portray, or present, a tableau, or “living picture” of your creature. When you team is called, present your tableau to the class.

Meet with your group to discuss what you read. What do you think is the theme so far? What evidence supports the theme? Decide which chapter you will illustrate. Be sure to show what your character is like and how your character changes throughout the course of the book. Illustrate your chapter into comic strips.
