Why the changes? Historical Career Programs Now (CTE)
Mandated by the state Needed by the work force Graduation requirements Historical Career Programs Now (CTE) For some students For all students For a few jobs For all careers 6 to 7 program areas 16 clusters; 81 programs of study In lieu of academics Aligns and supports academics High school focused High school and college partnerships Traditional CTE programs and areas of emphasis have evolved into programs that educate students in a wide range of careers involving sophisticated scientific and technological skills and knowledge. Despite CTE’s past reputation as a less-demanding track, research has shown that Career and Technical Education programs engage and motivate students by offering them real-world learning opportunities. Thus, a true partnership has been created between secondary and postsecondary systems with an increase in rigor and the alignment of high school standards to college expectations. Based upon the… Concept - Students can succeed in school, career, and life if they plan their own individual college and career success. Philosophy - No career option is intrinsically better than the other. Whether the choice is right or not depends on the personal goals of the student. Goal - Prepare students for college and career, and allow them to choose the options that are best for them. Copyright © Texas Education Agency All rights reserved. 8
