3 STUDENT AFFAIRS VISION
Student Affairs at Lake Forest College is committed to supporting and providing an exceptional, transformative learning experience for students. We subscribe to an integrated and inclusive perspective, affirming that what students learn outside the classroom is equally important as that which they learn inside the classroom.

4 FORESTER FIVE VALUES College isn’t all about books, tests, and papers. What a student does outside the classroom is as important as what a student studies inside the classroom. That’s why at Lake Forest College we adhere to the Forester Five foundations for student growth.

5 FORESTER FIVE VALUES Students will be able to think for themselves, think deeply about their actions and their consequences, and make good decisions and healthy choices for themselves and their communities. Students will have the ability and interest to be actively engaged in their communities, be responsible, and respect each other, their environment, and themselves. Students will become adept at approaching differences openly, honestly, and respectfully. Students will be able to define and embody their values and goals and define for themselves what it means for them to succeed. They will develop a life-long ability to define their individual path in life.  Students will become ethical, thoughtful, and socially conscious leaders. They will find their passion, engage in social issues, and participate as citizens of a global community.

7 LIFE OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM
The co-curricular experience at Lake Forest College enriches and adds to your student’s education. It is important for your student to get immersed in the co-curricular experience. We offer assistance and support as new students transition to the College.

8 COMMUNICATING WITH YOU
Partnering and communicating with parents is important, especially when a student is struggling. When you have a problem or concern, we encourage you to first speak with your student, help your student to be a good self-advocate. We will almost always want to speak with the student when a parent raises a concern. The Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) sets some limits regarding communication from us to you. Having said that…

9 COMMUNICATING WITH YOU
You will hear from the College regarding significant medical or psychological concerns that may arise. You will hear from the College regarding significant changes to your student’s status. You will hear from the College regarding significant academic or conduct problems that your student encounters.

10 HELPING YOUR STUDENT TRANSITION TO COLLEGE
Urge your student to get involved inside and outside of the classroom. Encourage your student to strive to get to know at least one faculty or staff member. Remind your student to use resources and support structures at the College. Be mindful that the transition to college is a change for your student AND for you and your family. Be patient and supportive regarding the transition process. Sometimes listening is the most important thing you can do.
