Questions About this Class you Didn’t Know you HAD…
English I and II and LAMP Questions About this Class you Didn’t Know you HAD…
3
1. WhAt do I need to bring to class?
Bring interactive notebooks, pencil, textbook, and independent novel. --When you are unprepared, your guardians will be contacted and there could be an office referral if it becomes habitual.
4
2. Do I have to Have RESPECT?
YES YOU DO!! Respect others and use common courtesy. --I don’t need to know which one (1 or 2) you are going to the bathroom for. -- We don’t need you to make inappropriate comments or yell out during the lesson. --Don’t lie and deny, talk back, argue, or complain. It really won’t serve a purpose in this classroom. --Have regard for others in the class who want to learn something.

3. What is wrong with interfering when I am bored and don’t care about school?
Well…look around. You aren’t the only student in the class and your classmates just might care about their education. Be sensitive to others. It’s 55 Minutes. I promise You will live.

4. How Do I Be a Leader? Follow all directions the first time they are given. If you don’t understand or didn’t hear it, ask your shoulder partner or your face partner. If no one in your team understood, it’s a team question. Everyone raises Their hands together. (But I’m betting on Your team members.)

5. Do I Always have to have a book to read?
You will be expected to have a novel that you are reading independently outside of class, other than your textbook. Silent reading will also be a sponge activity to work on anytime you are finished with work early in class. We will have sustained silent reading two days a week in this class—Tuesdays and Thursdays. You will be expected to complete a reading log, which you will turn in at the end of each month. Reading logs will be worth a grade, but you can get bonus points if you read every time and complete both sides of your log.

6. I am not allowed any calls in class?
The use of a cell phone will not be allowed in my class. It must be turned OFF and put AWAY during class. If you think this will be impossible to do without getting in trouble, then ask me to assign you a number and drop it in the “cellfie” holder when you walk into the classroom. It’s your choice UNTIL you get into trouble. Once you get into trouble, you will no longer have a choice. Your phone will be turned in at the beginning of every class period for the remainder of the year and you will get your phone back ONLY AT THE END OF CLASS. If we use phones for an activity in class, you will not be allowed. There will be no discussion, pleading, or bargaining. You make the choice, the consequence is yours. Failure to turn in your phone will result in an immediate discipline referral and confiscation of the phone.

How Do I enter class? First, make sure to put your backpacks, purses, and books in, under, or on your desks. DO NOT leave your things laying around in the floor. People trip and fall. Also, my tables, shelves, and chairs are not storage areas for your things. Be courteous and do not throw your things on my furniture. Then, begin your daily journal the minute you walk into class. You will have the first five minutes of class to write the date, copy the question, and write the answer to the assignment. When you have completed the assignment, sit quietly at your seat until you have further instructions from me. You will always get your paper from the journal box at the beginning of class the next day. “Journals” are worth five points each day. Every ten days, the grades on your journal will be combined into a total grade worth 50 points. If you are absent, you can earn three points. You may either write the word “absent” and the date, or copy the date, question, and answer from someone else’s paper, since journal work questions often end up on tests.
10
“Classroom Questions Trivia”
How many points will your “Journal Work” scores be worth every FOUR weeks?
11
What are the important classroom procedures?
Late Work: Please be aware of the student handbook’s policy and procedures regarding discipline referrals for not turning in homework. Late work will receive a 10-point deduction for each day late, up to 2 weekdays.
12
How do I get my Make-up Work?
Long-term projects cannot be turned in as makeup or late work. If a student is absent the day of an exam, he / she will be expected to take a make-up exam in the testing center or at a time scheduled by the student and teacher. Also, students must make-up the test within 5 school days upon returning to school. Additionally, students will receive their makeup via , remind 101 messages, or by obtaining that from the “make-up work” folder in the classroom on the student shelf. The daily assignments are posted on calendars hanging in the front of the classroom. You are responsible for reading the board, collecting the materials necessary, and turning in your work. NOTE: YOU WILL NOT BE REMINDED TO GET YOUR MAKE-UP WORK. IT IS NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY. I WAS NOT THE ONE WHO WAS ABSENT!!
13
Leaving the Classroom During Class:
You will be given a hall pass sheet with 16 slots on it. That equals 4 hall passes per nine week grading period. You can use your hall pass sheet for using the bathroom, going to your locker, or anything else that may arise. Simply fill it out and bring it to me to sign. Don’t forget about the 10/10 rule: no hall pass will be signed 10 minutes after class starts or 10 minutes before class ends. And I will not sign it while I am teaching!! Please note that once you have used all sixteen of your passes, you will no longer be allowed out of this classroom for anything. So, use them wisely. You will also not be issued a new one if you lose yours, so don’t even ask! If you have a friend who has forgotten theirs or has lost theirs and you want to let them use one of yours as a favor, that is your prerogative. However, understand that a point will be rewarded at the end of the year for every hall pass you don’t use. Those reward points will be added to your final grade.
14
What if my pencil grows feet and gets lost before this class?
I do have pencils for those of you who have the unfortunate luck of losing their pencil. But my pencils are not free and they are not to leave this classroom. Therefore, if you borrow a pencil, you will be asked to leave a shoe at my desk. When you return my pencil, you can have your shoe back. If you don’t want to sit in class with one shoe off, come prepared or ask a classmate. There will be no discussion!
15
What If YOU CATCH ME CHEATING?
Cheating in my class WILL NOT be tolerated. If you cheat on a test or a quiz and I catch you, your paper will be taken immediately, thrown in the garbage, and you will be given a zero. If I find that you have copied from another person or you have let another person copy off of you, I will take the final grade on both papers, divide it by two, and give you that grade. My philosophy is, “share your work, share your grade.”
16
How do I get out of this class the fastest?
The ringing of the bell is my signal that class is over, not yours. Therefore, I will dismiss you, not the bell. You are in control of how fast dismissal happens. You must be seated in your assigned seat and you must be quiet. (Standing by your seat, near your seat, or kneeling on your seat will not be accepted.)
17
What do I need to be successful?
-1 inch 3 ring binder - 1 subject spiral notebook or composition book - Pencils -1 Flash drive or internet access from home -Additional supplies may be needed
18
Why can’t I express my artistic talents on your Furniture?
My furniture is not mine. It belongs to the school. Even I can’t draw on it. So….Writing, carving, marking, or scribbling on desks, chairs, tables, shelves or any other property in the classroom is against the handbook policy and WILL NOT be tolerated.
19
Let’s Get CONNECTED!!

One More thing… Please, only bring to class what will fit into the desk holder. Do not bring things that have to sit around your desk in the floor, against walls, etc. Backpacks, purses, etc. MUST BE HUNG ON THE CHAIR. Thanks!
22
Find The Fiction Cut your cards out. Last teammate standing, clean the scraps up and put in the garbage. On your sheet of paper, each write three statements about rules, procedures, materials, etc. of the class: two true, one false, attempting to trick your teammates. One student on each team stands and reads their statements. Teammates choose the one they think is fiction and then simultaneously announce their guesses. The standing student announces the false statement. Students celebrate. The next teammate stands and process is repeated.
