Some are important like going through adulthood making decisions about jobs, school, money and family.

Six Decision making steps
The best approach to solving problems is to face the problem and find a solution. Using methods in which you don’t think the problem through can hurt you .

1. State the situation Decide what the problem is and how it developed, who besides you is involved and how much time do you have to make your decision?

2. List the options Think of as many ways as possible to solve the problem. Write down your choices, ask for suggestions from friends and family.

3. Weigh the possible outcomes
Look at your options, think about the consequences or results of each option. Think about positive and negative parts to each option Think about risk of each option.

4. Consider your values Values are beliefs you feel strongly about that help guide the way you live. They are based on what is important to you. Develop a moral code to supports your decision making.

5. Make a decision and act. Review your options and consequences of each. Decide which is best for you. Reevaluate if no options or consequences appeal to you.

6. Evaluate the decision. After making the decision, determine whether or not it worked out. If the problem still exists, reevaluate and choose different options.

Benefits of good decisions
Your self concept and self esteem improve You gain control of all parts of your health. You increase independence by becoming responsible. You gain control of your future by determining which direction you want your life to go in. When you make good decisions, relationships with family and friends improve.
