Diversity Terms Norm: an ideal standard binding upon the members of a group and serving to guide, control, or regulate power and acceptable behavior. Assumptions: a thing that is accepted as true or as certain to happen, without proof Bias: a positive or negative inclination towards a person, group, or community; can lead to stereotyping. Stereotype: a positive or negative set of beliefs held by an individual about the characteristics of a certain group Discrimination: unfavorable or unfair treatment towards an individual or group based on their personal characteristics 10 min Defines A quality idea: What does quality mean to you? The Story A businessman had just turned off the lights in the store when a man appeared and demanded money. The owner opened a cash register. The contents of the cash register were scooped up, and the man sped away. A member of the police force was notified promptly.

Compliance: Key Laws Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964
Prohibits discrimination in employment based on race, color, national origin, sex, and religion. Equal Pay Act of 1963 Prohibits discrimination in payment of wages or benefits on the bases of sex where men and women perform work of similar skill, effort and responsibility. Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 Prohibits discrimination in employment based on age against applicants or employees who are 40 years of age or older. The Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008 Prohibits discrimination in employment based on physical or mental impairment. Requires the employer to make reasonable workplace accommodations to qualifying individuals.

Compliance: Key Laws Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA)
Prohibits discrimination in employment-related matters on the basis of national origin or citizenship. Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 Prohibits discrimination based on race, color, or national origin in programs/activities that receive federal funding. Texas Commission on Human Rights Act Prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, disability, religion, sex, national

Discrimination Conduct directed at an individual because of race, color, national origin, age, gender, religion, disability, veterans’ status that subjects the individual to treatment that adversely affects the individual’s employment or education. * Protected classes

Title IX No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal Financial Assistance.
