What is the Mid-autumn Festival?
yuè bǐng 月饼 mooncake The Mid-Autumn Festival is also called The Moon Festival.

嫦 娥 - goddess of the Moon cháng é
Chang e lives on the moon, she has a pet.

Like Chinese New Year, it is a festival in the traditional Chinese calendar, also called the Farmers’ Calendar, and is based on the changes of the moon, not the movement of the sun.

This means it falls on a different day each year, but always the 15th day of the 8th lunar month.

Food is important in all Chinese festivals
Food is important in all Chinese festivals. The Mid-Autumn Festival is famous for mooncakes, pastries with sweet or savoury fillings, often with an egg yolk in the middle to represent the moon.

Families get together to have dinner and admire the moon, often visiting famous scenic spots such as West Lake in Hángzhōu.

Work in a group of four You group should have: Two researchers – find the answers (refers to the worksheet from your teacher) A recorder – record the findings A presenter – present to our class 30 minutes research time 2 - 5 minutes presentation time Reward – first 2 groups will get stickers; a sticker for each of you in these two groups. Then, we are going to vote the best two presentations; these 2 groups will also get stickers .
