Unprecedented growth in volume of data.
Industry estimates show that data is growing at a rate as high as 45 percent per year. Connected cars are one of the fastest growing sources of data.

Explosion in number of sources of data
Increasing cloud adoption and decreasing data storage costs are enabling OEM IT teams to manage staggering quantities of data from disparate sources but with limited ability to tap into its value

Unstructured data makes it hard to draw insights or value
Many disparate sources Each sends data in proprietary format Many consumers Each needs data translated to its own conforming data models before data can be transformed into information. Value in Data is Context Sensitive Value in Data is Time Sensitive
Data are the facts or details from which information is derived. Value is realized when information is derived. Individual pieces of data are rarely useful alone. For data to become valuable, data needs to be put into context When data is outdated, information derived from it can be misleading There is negative value in data if information cannot be derived in near real time.

Organizations are struggling with data ownership. Who owns data generated by sensors? Sensor manufacturer? Tier-2 supplier who utilized the sensor in a part? Tier-1 supplier who utilized the part? OEM who assembled the vehicle? Vehicle owner? DMS/DSP who reads the data?

Organizations need to apply governance to where sensitive data resides Regulations and privacy laws differ by country Individual owners of connected vehicles have a right to opt-in or opt-out of data sharing thereby complicating matters
