Jones apparently had ambitions to form his own band On July 3, he drowned in his own swimming pool. On the night of his death, Jones had been drinking wine and taking downers. Some suggested that he might have taken his own life, but those closest to him said he had no reason to commit suicide. Even though he had been officially ejected from the Stones several months earlier, Jones was planning new musical projects on his own. The Rolling Stones, with Mick Taylor as Jones replacement, gave free concert in London’s Hyde Park on July 5, 1969, staging it as a tribute to Jones.
