What will the outcomes be at the end of the topic?
Year 3 Spring Term New Vocabulary: Rainforest, Amazon, canopy, deforestation, emergent layer, camouflage, habitat, extinct, understory, climate, tropical Literacy Analysing the features of poetry and writing our own. The Promise. The mysterious giant called Crom. The Vanishing Rainforest. Where the Forest Meets the Sea The Great Kapok Tree. PSHE . This term we will be discussing the importance of looking after our planet. We will also look at what it means to ‘Be the best you can be!’ What will the outcomes be at the end of the topic? Numeracy Ordering numbers up to 1000 Recognising sequences of numbers Problem solving Using the partitioning method for adding and subtracting Developing mental strategies for calculations Learning times tables by heart and using this knowledge to solve problems The children will learn all about life in the Amazon rainforest, the animals found there and why it’s important that humans protect the rainforests for future generations. Languages: French Key questions to investigate History and Geography Finding out about the equator, climate, Brazil, tribes of the Amazon and the Amazon River. What are rainforests? Where are the rainforests? Who lives there? Why is it important to protect the rainforests? Why are the rainforests disappearing? This term our topic is: Rainforests Art and Design/ DT Lots of rainforest art. Animal life drawing. Printmaking Artist study Making rainforest masks Making boats to go down the Amazon What do the children already know? What do they want to find out? The children know that lots of animals live in rainforests. They know that they are very wet. A few children could name the Amazon rainforest. They want to know what animals live in the rainforests. They also want to know what life would be like to live in the rainforests and how it would be different from our daily lives. Science Light and Dark Plants Religious Education We will be looking at Islam. Music Composing and performing Rainforest Music. How will the topic link to our community? How will Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural links be made? Importance of protecting our planet. Looking after one another. Understanding right from wrong. Role Play and Real Life links We will be having debates. Children will take sides of the moral argument of cutting down the rainforests and argue their cases. Trips and Visits We will be going to London Zoo. We will also be doing life drawing at Surrey Docks Farm! PE PE takes place on: Monday and Tuesday. Computing Tynker Coding Makewaves Resources: Rainforest-based texts, such as ‘The Great Kapok Tree’ and ‘Where the Forest meets the Sea’. Rainforest animals, globes, maps, art materials, musical instruments.
