2 Maritime Academy Charter School (MACHS) is a public charter school located on two campuses near the Delaware River in Philadelphia.

3 MACHS provides approximately 820 students in grades 2-12 with a rigorous academic program infused with a maritime theme.

11 Provide training on the importance of the maritime industry.
Teach and use nautical vocabulary. Get underway. Ask what they’re doing, then work with teachers to develop specific lessons and extra-curricular programs that complement or reinforce their curriculum.

12 Math: arithmetic, trigonometry, geometry, pre-algebra.
Science: chemical, physical, and biological oceanography. Physics: six simple machines found on ships. Reading/Language Arts: literature of the sea.

13 History: go beyond “Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492.”
Music: Songs of the sea. Visual Arts: cinema, drawing and painting, sculpture.

14 Topics created for the Middle School include:
classes of boats light houses and buoys ports magnetic compass European exploration and navigation navigation distress signals immigration and the Philadelphia seaport boat speed marine organisms life jackets and buoyancy sailor songs and poetry triangle trade simple machines on ships water pressure and measurement 

15 After School at MACHS Options include sailing (MS), Naval Sea Cadets (HS) Boat Building (both) Sea Perch (both).
