2016 SAT Overview According to The Official SAT Study Guide by CollegeBoard

2 What does the SAT test? The SAT isn't designed to assess how well you've memorized a large set of facts.  Rather, the SAT assesses your ability to apply the knowledge and skills you'll need in college and career.

3 How many tests are in the SAT?
There are 3 tests plus an essay. The Reading Test - 65 minutes/52 questions The Writing and Language Test - 35 minutes/44 questions The Math test - 80 minutes/58 questions The Essay - 50 minutes/1 prompt

4 You'll receive two section scores:
1.  Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 2.  Math The Essay is reported separately. In addition to the total score and section scores, the SAT will show cross-test scores and sub scores.

5 What Should you Do with your Scores?
You'll be able to access your online score report through your free College Board account.  This report will give you a detailed breakdown of your performance. Within nine days of taking the test, you can decide to have your SAT results sent, free of charge, to four institutions.    Enrolling in the optional Student Search Service allows colleges and scholarship programs to invite you to apply.
