4 If you can’t curse the family of God…teach them to be like the world!
Doctrine of Balaam “Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD.” (Num 31v16) “O my people, remember now what Balak king of Moab consulted, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him from Shittim unto Gilgal; that you might know the righteousness of God” (Micah 6v5) “But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.” (Rev 2v14) If you can’t curse the family of God…teach them to be like the world! Next time Phinehas enters the record is Numbers 25… carefully note the CONTEXT from Num 22 = Story of Balaam! Balaam’s impact on Israel was HUGE … a lesson for us today!

5 Teach them to be like the world…
Practice of Balaam Teach them to be like the world… “The daughters of Moab called” CR Gen 6v2 “Joined to Baal-peor” God’s bride commits fornication (Hos 9v10, 1 Cor 6v13-20) Num 25…the impact of bad doctrine…bad practice “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall…There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful…Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry” (1 Cor 10v8, 11-12)

6 Are we learning the ways of the world??

7 The Righteousness of God
“Speak unto all the heads of the people; and let them slay the men that were joined to Baal-peor; and hang them up1 before Yahweh, against the sun2“ Impale, execute (LXX “crucify” Heb 6v6) Public display (2 Sam 12v12) “His righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the nations” (Psa 98v2, Rom 3v25-26)

8 Moses Compromised “One of the children of Israel” = One of the heads (Num 25v14) “Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine…. Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear. I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality” (1 Tim 5v17-20)

9 Phinehas’ Godly Zeal Phinehas “was zealous with my zeal” (v11)
“In my jealousy” God’s character in action (Exo 34v14-16 CR v6-7) “My Covenant of Peace” Phinehas acts like God (Heb 13v20) Mal 2v4-7: “My covenant was with him of life and peace…the law of truth was in his mouth, he walked with me in peace and equity” Isa 54 (v10, 17): “The covenant of my peace not removed” Psa 106v30-31: “Counted to him for righteousness”

“Made Atonement” (Lev 10v3, Rom 3v25-26) God vindicated. See Psa 45v4-7(Psalm of Sons of Korah) FROM “the door of tabernacle” (Num 25v6-7) “Door of Tabernacle” Place of offerings (Lev 1-4, 8, 12 etc) Atonement = Forgiveness Place God’s glory appears (Ex 29v42, Dt 31v15) “For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace1 and glory2: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly” (Psalm 84)

11 People who value reconciliation!
