Student homework responsibilities:
Students will do quality work that is turned in on time.
Students will do work on their own and only ask for help after they have given it their best effort.

Provide necessary supplies and a quiet work environment.
In addition, we ask that parents initial the AGENDA on a daily basis after checking to make sure all of the assignments are completed.

5. Rigor of the Common Core Math
* The new common core curriculum has increased rigor. ** We have limited time to teach difficult concepts. *** Students need to focus, be persistent, and try their personal best.

6. ** There is no Math textbook
****Homework is given nightly and each problem needs to be completed. If a student does not get it, we ask that they refer to their notes and examples from class. Attempting a problem and showing an effort is better than leaving a problem blank.

Reading
Utilizing the Units of Study for Teaching Reading and Writing by Lucy Calkins
Weekly Guided Reading Sessions will be taught in small groups.

Reading
Students are expected to read 25 chapter books at their reading level each year.
To accomplish this goal, students are to read a minimum of 30 minutes per night, 5 days a week.
Students will utilize a Daily Reading Log to record minutes read.

24. ELA – English Language Arts
Writing
Writing instruction will be delivered by the team’s ELA Teachers.
Writers will be asked to develop their ideas as they read and think analytically in response to literature.
Students are required to respond to their daily reading in their writing journal at home nightly.
