SAFETY 101 KNOW WHERE THE SAFETY PROCEDURE BOOKLET IS LOCATED IN THE CLASSROOM THIS BOOKLET PROVIDES BASIC INFORMATION REGARDING EVERYTHING FROM WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF A TORNADO TO HOW TO HANDLE A BOMB THREAT CONFIDENTIALITY – BOARD POLICY MANDATES STUDENT RECORDS REMAIN CONFIDENTIAL – INCLUDING ANY HEALTH INFORMATION – PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHEN DISCUSSING STUDENT INFORMATION WITH OTHER STAFF

Intruder Safety Information
“Lockdown” – Announcement will be made to go into lockdown mode - Lock classroom doors, close blinds, and cover all exterior windows – announcement will be made when lockdown ends. “Intruder” – (Access to school monitored – visitors MUST sign in & receive a visitor tag) – Announcement made if possible, call 911, “Lock Out” “Get Out” Take Out” Intruder Safety Information

Bullying Major revisions in 2016 (H.B. 1583) -Re-defined “bullying” -Beefed up reporting requirements -Added investigation timeline -Added anti-retaliation provision -Requires student training -Addresses off-campus cyberbullying *Policy JFCF revised in Feb

What is Bullying? Intimidation, unwanted aggressive behavior or harassment; and Repetitive or substantially likely to be repeated; and Causes reasonable student to fear for physical safety or property; or Substantially interferes with student’s education; or Substantially disrupts orderly operation of school

Schools Can Discipline Bullying if it occurs where?
On school property At any school function On a school bus Broader rules for cyberbullying Off-campus cyberbullying can be punished if reasonably foreseeable that message would reach school OR it negatively impacts educational environment

Bullying Reporting Each school must have teacher or administrator designated to receive reports All district employees, subs and volunteers must report bullying of which they have “first-hand knowledge” If employee thinks it qualifies, report! Report required w/in two school days

Bullying Investigations
Investigation must start w/in two school days of report Investigation must be completed w/in ten school days after report, unless there is “good cause” to extend

Mandated Reporters Missouri Statute states …”or other person with responsibility for the care of children has reasonable cause to suspect that a child has been or may be subjected to abuse or neglect or observes a child being subjected to conditions or circumstances which would reasonably result in abuse or neglect, that person shall immediately report to the division in accordance with the provisions of sections to ”. Don’t question the child – Your responsibility is to report not investigate Hotline number answered 24/7/365 Make report then notify supervisor/principal Child abuse includes: threat of abandonment, beatings, not being fed, sexual misconduct with a child, etc.

Student Injury Information
Report all injuries to the nurse Practice Universal Precautions: *Don’t touch body fluids of others without wearing gloves* Know your students with Medical Diagnoses – Food Allergies, Asthma Don’t use candy as reward – may not be aware of student with allergies
