Deployment of Message Archiver is pretty easy. We support journaling mail servers like Exchange and you can simply point your journaling mailbox to the Archiver or push s through SMTP. We can also import through POP or IMAP, and through the PST crawler.
We also support archiving from hosted services like Google Apps and Office By leveraging a free Barracuda cloud relay, customers can push-journal to a Message Archiver while adding in an extra layer of spam protection.
The content on the Message Archiver can be accessed via the web, via Outlook, or using Apple or Android mobile devices.
There are also options to extend Archiver storage in the cloud or by stacking boxes together, as well as backup the Message Archiver using the built-in cloud mirroring functionality or backup solutions like Barracuda Backup.
Finally, messages can be exported to Barracuda’s file sharing platform Copy.com for distribution to external parties such as auditors.

Typically, all message, calendar, and contact info is stored on whatever storage is used by the mail server, usually expensive tier 1 disk. Yet the vast majority of s on a server are not accessed very frequently, if ever. And a huge portion of those s exist in multiple mailboxes, filling capacity unnecessarily. Putting duplicated, cold data on expensive storage wastes budget and slows down mail systems.
Barracuda Message Archiver applies message-level deduplication and compression to reduce mail storage needs, and enables deletion of messages from the mail server while preserving access to them by users and IT.

Typical users tend to use their mailbox as a filing cabinet, keeping messages and attachments on the server until they get warning notices from IT to reduce their on the server. A standard response to these notices is for users to archive their older main to a local or network drive as PSTs. While this does reduce their server load, it can also duplicate storage across users as they archive the same message, making it much more difficult to do one consolidated search of messages. This creates a challenge for backing up your systems, and can adversely affect compliance and availability. Finally, there are some retention policies set for short periods, like 6 months. PSTs prevent the enforcement of this type of policy, potentially exposing an organization to legal risk.

With Message Archiver, all s and other mail client information are stored on the appliance, so even if removed from the mail server, they can still be accessed through the Message Archiver. This allows users to keep minimal stored on their mail server and maintain online access to it via the Message Archiver, eliminating the need for local archiving and generation of PST files. This avoids all the disadvantages of PSTs while also minimizing mail server storage needs.
Message Archiver also offers a PST crawler to search the IT network for PSTs and absorb them into the appliance.

Message Archiver supports 3 different roles – admin, auditor and user, allowing them to create, save, and share searches, apply litigation holds and export information that can be shared with 3rd parties (e.g. external auditor, legal counsel, etc.). Access is moderated by AD/LDAP integration.
Message Archiver also enables admins to set proactive policies that will monitor activity and take some action when certain conditions are met, e.g., alert the admin or auditor every time certain keywords are found (e.g. personal information, adult language, etc.), or apply granular retention rules to ensure optimal storage of messages.
