5 HOW DOES IT WORK? What is it? How Does it Work?
One day – 24 hour giving challenge A celebration of the nonprofit community Entire community comes together to be a part of a very special day of philanthropy. Part of a national event: Give Local America How Does it Work? Kicks off at the stroke of midnight on May 3rd and ends at 11:59 pm the same day. Donors choose nonprofits to support and make a credit card donation at Each nonprofit will have their own donation page! (more on this later!)

8 ELIGIBILITY 501 c3 nonprofit organization in good standing with the IRS Fiscal sponsorships accepted – must provide agreement Must pass Community Fdn due diligence process Must be headquartered, have a branch or provide direct services to one of the following 4 counties: Sacramento, Placer, Yolo, El Dorado Minimum of 3 years financial history as a 501c3 nonprofit No churches, schools, or school-related groups (i.e. sports, music, PTA, etc.) Complete all requirements for participation by posted deadlines

9 REQUIREMENTS For New Nonprofits: New is defined as an organization that did NOT participate in the 2015 BIG Day of Giving. Attend an orientation Complete a commitment form Pay registration fee Attend GivingEdge training Complete/submit GivingEdge profile Complete all requirements for participation by posted deadlines Team captain calls

11 REGISTRATION FEE Sliding scale based on budget size
2014 Operating Budget Size Fee $0 - $99,999 $50 $100,000 - $249,999 $100 $250,000 - $499,999 $150 $500,000 - $999,999 $200 $1 million and above $250 Two options to pay: Pay Now: Credit card or check Pay Later: Deduct from BIG Day totals.

12 WHY PARTICIPATE? INDIVIDUAL GIVING is THE #1 source of revenue for nonprofits. Nationwide, 72% of charitable giving comes from individuals. RAISE UNRESTRICTED DOLLARS: unrestricted dollars are hard to come by! NEW GIVING BEHAVIOR: Giving Days help introduce and reinforce new giving behaviors that can help lead to greater year-round giving. REACH NEW DONORS: 30% of donations both in 2014 and came from new donors. Some NPOs saw higher numbers! REACH DIVERSE DONORS: untapped market with huge potential.

PRIZES CHALLENGES! Last year, there were over 120 prizes and over $180,000 up for grabs. Some examples: Kings #DoGood Challenge Opportunity every hour to win $1,000 for most $ raised and the most donations. Social media prizes: video challenges 100% board giving and board fetch challenges drawings

WHY PARTICIPATE? INCENTIVES Pro-rated Incentive Pool Our goal is to raise 2.9% of total raised to help cover the technology fees associated with the website. Foundation will raise these funds from sponsors Will not advertise as a matching pool. Focus of BDoG marketing: prize challenges and individual NPO matches.

20 CHOOSING A TEAM CAPTAIN
Team captain is: Primary contact for all BIG Day of Giving communications with the Foundation. All important information sent to team captain only and all questions should come from team captain. Team captain responsibilities: Running your BIG DoG campaign Attending monthly team captain calls. First call is in December Keeping your staff/board/volunteers in the “loop”

25 DONATION PROCESS All donations must be made at bigdayofgiving.org to count towards totals and be eligible for incentive pool funds Bigdayofgiving.org is provided by the vendor Kimbia, which creates the website and secure giving portal - backed by a PCI Level 1 secure service provider Gifts are 100% tax deductible Minimum donation is $25, Maximum is $10,000

26 DONATION PROCESS Transaction fee is 6.2%. This is comprised of a 3.3% credit card transaction fee and 2.9% payment vendor (Kimbia) fee. Gift receipts are sent automatically via . You do not need to receipt for tax purposes, but you DO need to thank your donors! You will have real time access to your donors - A link will be sent to your organization’s team captain one week prior to BIG DoG. Goal is to provide all donations, net fees, plus incentive dollars to organization no later than June 30th.
